This is an image of my great grand uncle's shopfront from 20 The Pavement, Clapham Common.
If anyone is prepared to take on the challenge of cleaning/colourising this image I would be most grateful.
With regards to colours - all I know is that his bakery delivery vans were red & cream but I'm happy to leave the colours in your hands.
-
Well, that's kept me busy for a while

but what a transformation......thank you so much Pat. I hope this one has not cost you your sanity!
It never ceases to amaze me how the introduction of colour makes such a difference to the original.
I love the baker peeking out of the side door - fantastic job ;D
-
Lovely piece of work Pat....a lot of detail in it isn't. A great photo of a bygone era. You have some great photos Keith.

Masterful, Pat!

Most of the old family photos I have accumulated over 10 years of researching my family history. My family were big in the bakery business (not that I knew anything about this until I started researching) & it all began with my great grand uncle Samuel who started the business in 1877 & moved into the shop on Clapham Common in 1905. I do have a great photo of the annual staff outing from 1923 which I wouldn't have the nerve to ask you kind people to colour ;)

Thank you for your comments everybody. I do rather like working on photos with lots of details, sometimes it works, sometimes it is a big no no, but I was rather pleased with this one. Time for a lie down now :) :) :)

A go from me.
Cheers,
Skippy

Lovely, Skippy :)
Long time no see!

That's brilliant - what a lot of detail - you have even included the butcher's meat hanging next door!
I now have 2 great colour versions so thank you Skippy :)

You learn something every day. I had to look up what a rout seat was, it seems it is a light bench supplied for parties. :)
Jennifer

I was same Jennifer - had to look up Rout Seats when I first saw the photo. I guess he was in an ideal spot being opposite Clapham Common :)
Does anyone know what the circular containers (?) are that look like clock faces on the middle shelf window display under the Pot of Tea sign ???
-
I wondered about those too but couldn't decide...they have to be some sort of boxed confectionery...I'm going for Turkish Delight...my favourite ;D
Carol
-
....certainly more likely than he was selling clocks! ;D although I'd like to think it was fudge :D
-
Fudge was in square boxes..Turkish Delight was in round boxes...i'm sticking with with with my favourite :P ;D ;D
Carol
-
There was also a type of cough sweet that came in round boxes - trying to remember the name :-\
-
Might be Acid Drops - they used to come in round containers like that. :)

I've never seen iron work attached to the street lamp like that before.

I've never seen iron work attached to the street lamp like that before.
Jennifer
I've often wondered if it was functioning street lamp & if so was it a one-off that he paid for to advertise :-\
Keith
-
Yes Keith I too think he could have paid for the glass to advertise his wares.
