Hi All. As usual I'm on the scrounge for help as hit a brick wall...and living in Scotland it isn't easy for me to tap into Irish resources.
So tracing my family back I got some details on this side of the water for my GGGGF George (Wesley?) Maguire who seems to have been born in Ireland (Think Cavan or surrounding area) to a John McGuire (Maguire) and Margaret Brown (Browne). Seemed to have to potential matches, but not sure how or if I can make the final connection to either
Possible Connection 1: John McGuire B1828 Cavan Margaret Brown 9/3/1825 Ashfield, Cavan (Parents: John/Margaret) Margaret Browne 4/9/1821 Ashfield Cavan (Parents: James/Jane)
Possible Connection 2: Marriage: John Maguire - Margaret Browne Ireland Civil Reg Indexes 1845-1858 Film: 101241 Vol:4 Page:365 Image: 204 (John) 315 (Margaret) Cootehill, Cavan, Ireland
1846
I have George Maguire (McGuire) on the following:
1871 Marriage to Mary Hendry on 27/02/1871 and he is down as either being 22 or 24 (can't read)
Here it has John McGuire and Margaret n. Brown (both deceased)
1891 Census George McGuire, 44, Commercial St, Glasgow
Birth place is down as Ireland, which pushed me to search for John and Margaret there.
Any help appreciated...this one has stumped me and frustrated I cannot get past this. Happy to travel to Ireland but only if i can get a bit more solid info...would like to see if i could go back another generation or two, but guess it now gets difficult.

Some of the information you want will be difficult to find as dates are before civil registration in Ireland (births, deaths and Catholic marriages from 1864 and non-Catholic marriages from 1845).

1846
Extracted marriage record desn't give father's names, as is usually the case, so it's possible they were illegitmate or minster or registrar didn't record fathers- only way to know for sure if to get marriage or wait for it to come online later (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp) https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGFR-HZ2
Not sure what's the source of this-

Possible Connection 2: Marriage: John Maguire - Margaret Browne Ireland Civil Reg Indexes 1845-1858
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01lnm/ Marriage of MARGARET BROWNE in 1846 will not be yours if they were RC!

Cootehill is a registration district,
These could potentially be the same record, as Ashfield is a parish, and I thinik it is in the Cootehill registration district.
The second entry is probably from the parish register.

Not true- could be a registry office marriage which came under civil registration starting in 1845.

Stoves, have you looked for other members of George's family living nearby in Scotland? Quite often several members of a family would move to the same area.

Hi All. I'll try answer what i can...
RELIGION: I am thinking the religion may be RC, however that is based on following it back through the line, so most of family (on this site) seem to be up to present day.
FAMILY: I cannot see any siblings for George...although on myheritage, someone has record matched with him and a potential sibling who seems to have went to the US (i'm not convinced these two are linked, but I could be wrong).
71 CENSUS: Thanks for that Heywood. Hadn't seen that before so details to add :)...I'll try get a copy too...like having the images.
Still confused...lol

Then anything on Civil Reg Pre 1864 won't be them.....

non-Roman Catholic Marriages are recorded from 1845, Roman Catholic Marriages are recorded from 1864
