I have John Hughes census 1881 Penlon Yard cottage , Bangor born Heneglwys. 1891 Penlon Yard Cottage, Bangor Born Bodffordd Anglesey. 1901 Pennon Yard Cottage born Bodffordd Anglesey. John Hughes 1908 age 53 Bangor
I have birth registration, born Ty'n a Capel Heneglwys father John Hughes tailor , mother Margaret Formerly Jones. 27/06 1854
I cannot find any trace of John Hughes born 1854 in census 1861 or 1871 in Bodffordd in Heneglwys. Anglesey Help please?
-
Typical scenario is that the father died, and the mother has re-married and the kids of the first marriage are enumerated under the step-father's surname.
Was the 1854-born chap wed between 1871 and 1881?
What names witness at the marriage?

It does help those trying to help you if you give census references and/or links to the records you have on familysearch. ;) :)

Thank you for your help

When you view the transcripts on FindMyPast they give a reference starting RG11 (1881) RG12 (1891) &RG13 (1901) followed by Piece no, folio no and page no. With a name as common as John Hughes it helps us to see who you are referring to. ;)

cant find marriage of John Hughes and Sarah Jones
BAN/17/E87 1875
BAN/26/E26 1876
Neither of these marriages fit!
-
Why doesn't this one match :-\
HUGHES John
JONES Sarah
Bangor, Civil Marriage Gwynedd (Caernarfon)
BAN/17/E87
-
BAN/17/E87 1875
Groom's father not John Hughes or a tailor and John Hughes Groom was a labourer not stone cutter/mason.
Ban/26/E62 1876 John Hughes - groom was a stone cutter. His father John Hughes was a Railway police constable!
-
Is this your direct line that you have tracked backwards to 1881 or are you trying to work forwards from John Hughes the tailor
-
this is my direct line tracing backwards from birth of my grandmother in 1877 in Bangor
-
How do you know that this birth is his :-\
Ty'n a Capel Heneglwys father John Hughes tailor , mother Margaret Formerly Jones. 27/06 1854
-
This looks possible for the 1861 census:-
RG09/4358/76/12

Apologies if I'm going over old ground again, but I see that John Thos.Hughes(tailor) and his wife Margaret are next door(Penlon Yard Cottage, previous page) to John Hughes(mason) and Sarah in the 1881 census, therefore likely to be parents(?).
Given the occupation and birthplaces,John and Margaret appear to be here in 1851:-
HO107/2522/546/10
which is where the posting originated, looking for 1861,1871.
-
This looks like John(mis-transcribed age,50 not 80?) and Margaret in 1871,with a daughter Ellen Jane,given born 1860
RG10/5752/62/2

Roger
Added Not so sure now!
-
It's not a mistranscription,I've found that couple in 1851 at HO107/2520/323/13.,so back to the drawing board for 1861,1871.
