Title: Francis Stevens (1872-1956) & family - restoration & colouring please
Post by: Avondale16 on Wednesday 28 February 18 11:00 GMT (UK)
This image is of my 1st cousin 2 x removed & his family which was taken shortly before they left the UK to start a new life in Canada in 1904 (mind you they don't look that happy at the prospect!)

Could one or more of you kind people please clean it up & add some artist colour to cheer up the family

Thanks
Keith

Lovely family group, Keith.

I'll have a go tomorrow if that's OK. The light's gone in my workroom with my iMac and big monitor.

I expect you'll have many restores by then  :)

That's absolutely fine Gadget.

They look a sweet if slightly down-trodden little group. You did some lovely work on Mary's Sally Army photo & Frances (Frank) was also in the Army & set-up his own bakery business when he got to Canada. I have somewhere a great old photo of his horse-drawn bread wagon.

Looking forward to seeing what you can do with this one.

That's great - thank you Loord. The little girl looks like she is wearing her dress back to front & what's going on with that chair - shabby chic?

Could the chair be paint spattered. I've got a table and a stepladder with those kind of splatters  ;D

Would you like them covered up or left shabby chic?

Well..For girl dress , I didn't notice that , I feel it is normal also for the chair I do agree that it is shabby chic style

Hi Gadget - do you think the shabby chic was intended or was it just a rough old chair?

Personally I think it looks a bit odd - could you cover it up please so I have one to compare with Loord's version.

I also feel like I want to polish Frank's shoes!

OK

As I said, I can't do it until tomorrow. But then I'll clean Frank's shoes, repair/paint the chair, tidy the little girl's dress and and generally get rid of the spots and scratches, etc.  Also, I think I'd like to do something with the background as it's not very nice.

 ;D ;D ;D

It might take an hour or so to tidy/repair this and I might not get on to colouring for a while.

As they saying goes "I'm in your hands" & so is this little family.

I agree the studio backdrop also looks rough & ready.

I'm sure they will be transformed by your skills.  :)

Very nice Peter - the sepia tint seems to suit this little family well & the clean up really brings the clothing to life.

Thank you

Well at my third attempt here are my versions. The first time I had restored about 90% when for no reason at all my computer crashed and I hadn't saved my ongoing work. The second time I deleted it because I didn't like it. What did Gadget say about it probably taking an hour to restore  ::) ::) By this time I was determined to complete it and so here is my try.

Thank you Pat for preserving - I hope you are pleased with the final results - I know I am.

I love little Frank's sailors uniform.

Go & have a lie down!  ;)
