I have on 1881 census at Wolstanton my husbands grandfather born 1880 Pitts Hill .
Was that a workhouse and what work would his father James Kinsella did to bring his family all but two born in Ireland .?
They were all residing in Wolstanton 1881 census
-
Canals and/or railways are always popular.
What was the occupation of the father at 1881?
-
Pitts Hill is a township in Wolstanton, so an area rather than a specific address. There was a pit in Wolstanton so many families came over from Ireland to work there. James Kinsella I believe was a Miner.
-
He's a miner in '81. Pitts Hill is an area NE of Tunstall.
EDIT In earlier times it was known as Pits Hill - the settlement's purpose is in the name ;)
-
Thank you i guessed it may have been the pit
They had the daughter Catherine as being born Tunstall 1877

On the Roman Catholic Baptism records both Catherine born 1/7/1877 Baptism 12/8/1877 & James Baptised 13/9/1881 were at the Sacred Heart Church, Tunstall, Father James Kinsella and Mother Maria (Mary) Connors
-
The mothers name was Mary Dowling on the family tree so may be the wrong family
-
Just to clarify :)
James' birth -
James Kinsella
q1 1880 Wolstanton
Vol 6b Page 110
Mother's maiden name - Connor
If you post the details of your husband's grandfather that you know of then perhaps we can help you find the correct family. Do you have the marriage cert for the grandfather? Is so those details will help.

13th February 1911 St Catherine's South Dublin
James Kinsella with father James.
Why do you think he is the one from Wolstanton?
-
The Ancestry page I looked at stated that he was born in Staffordshire but obviously wrong
Thank you for your help

This may be James and Margaret in 1911

If this is your husband’s grandfather, it looks as though you should be searching in Ireland as that James is born in Dublin.
If on the other hand, the family are from Wolstanton, then it looks like the Kinsella/Connors family.
When you say the Ancestry Page, do you mean a published tree? Sometimes, these are not correct. ;)
It is best to start with what you know and work back.
