In memoriam notice 5July1921 https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/20502177
HANSON.—In loving memory of my beloved husband and our dear father, Charles Hanson, who was accidentally drowned at the Dry Dock, South Brisbane, on July 5, 1920.
Twelve months have passed since that sad day
When the one we loved was called away ;
The end was sudden, the shock severe,
We little thought his end was near.
Only those who have lost are able to tell
The sorrow that's felt at not saying farewell.
Inserted by his wife, sons, and daughters.

I’m not sure what you are looking for.
Are you saying that Lillian McCoy wasn’t their daughter?

I’m really not sure . My father Brian McCoy told me that my Grandmothers birth name was Mary Elizabeth Byrne & Charles Hanson was her father but his wife was not her mother . My Grandmother was born 12/12/1905 & died 4/10/1977 . That name is on my fathers death certificate . There do not seem to be any records of my Grandmothers birth . I have Charles Hanson’s Death Certificate & it only lists the 3 children he had with his wife Ann Ford . Thanks for your help with this .

Thanks for all the information you have supplied regarding the Hanson family . I have my Grandmothers Death Certificate & while it does list Charles & Elizabeth Anne Forde as her parents , it may not be correct . There are no birth records for Lillian Mary . Elizabeth & her daughterSarah Ann lived with my Grandmother & my Grandfather Percy McCoy all their lives . I knew Sarah Ann very well . My mother & I were at her funeral . My Grandmother was always known by the Hanson family to be a half sister . My Grandmother unmarried had a daughter Elizabeth in 1924 . She married my Grandfather in 1926 & gave birth to my Father Brian in 1927 . There is no Birth record in 1924 for Elizabeth . Elizabeth had 10 children & my parents 4 . I’m the youngest . Me & my cousins were hoping to find out an accurate history about our Grandmother & her daughter Elizabeth .All the above have long passed on . Our Grandfather did adopt Elizabeth in 1930 . Out Grandparents were terrific & loving people we all lived together for a few years between 2 houses in Brisbane .

Ancestry has 2 marriage certificates for William Picking and Norah Donnelly

I wonder if she was adopted by the Hansons? The birth cupoflife found on 12/12/1905 for a Mary Elizabeth to an unmarried mum (Norah Valentine Donnelly) is a big coincidence... Informal adoption were not uncommon at the time.
Do you have her marriage certificate?

Agree she could have been adopted or possibly the child of one of the daughters brought up as a half sister?

Do you know about Charles' brother?
August Lambert HANSON, died Nov 1946 (reg B9316), son of Jacob HANSON & Sophia LARSEN, aged 85. He is buried at South Brisbane: https://graves.brisbane.qld.gov.au/
August married Rebecca BOWERY (nee BATTEN) in 1897 in Brisbane (B18850). No children found. Her parents were Benjamin BATTEN and Jane GARDNER. (The Benjamin [Bengeman] BATTEN in cemetery index, d. 1917 was her brother; her mother Jane died in 1914).
It looks like Rebecca's first husband Henry BOWERY died (drowned) in 1893 aged 46: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/174085653 and https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/20343805
August was a marine engineer. Funeral notices: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/49336714
His wife died in 1939. Funeral notices: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/188596108
Probate: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/40833854 and https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/40888685
EDIT: Henry BOWERY & Rebecca BATTEN married in Reading England in 1872. See FreeBMD.

I do have their Marriage Certificate my Grandmothers parents are listed as Charles Hanson & Elizabeth Anne Forde . My father told me that a Mrs Byrne who lived next door to the Hanson’s had an affair with Mr Hanson & the result was my Grandmother . Mr Byrne not impressed handed the baby over the fence & told Mr Hanson he could bring her up . On my fathers death certificate his mother is listed as Mary Elizabeth Byrne . The above is what us Grandchildren have been told . I was in the BDM Office in Brisbane & they have no Birth record of my Grandmother under various names I gave them . Maybe she was Mary Elizabeth Donnelly . She did name her daughter Elizabeth . Elizabeth’s first born daughter was named Mary . It is all very interesting to say the least

With regards to the adoption in 1930: Legal adoptions in Qld began in 1928, according to this web-site.
http://artsonline.monash.edu.au/historyofadoption/queensland-adoption-records/
Others with a better knowledge of Qld records may be able to tell you whether records are available which may give you more information.
Unfortunately open indexes for births in Qld only go up to 1918 so we can't search for a record which may be Elizabeth b1924.
The birth registration found by cupoflife in 1905 (Mary Elizabeth Donnelly) seems a possibility for Lilian Mary. Edit: I note that Norah Valentine DONNELLY's husband, William PICKING died in 1935 and I think she remarried to a BURTON.
See below where I post: I see a Norah Valentine BURTON on electoral rolls in Rockhampton but when I look harder they go up to 1980 and Norah Valentine DONNELLY/PICKING died in 1965. :-[ Sorry!
Not very helpful, I'm afraid!

Where did you get her date of birth? Does date match with her marriage and death?

May be worth contacting the Picking/Donnelly tree owner on ancestry to get more information.

On Lillian Mary Hanson’s marriage certificate in 1926 her age is 21 years old . On her death certificate in 1977 her age is listed at 72 years old . Her birthday was always celebrated on the 12th December . 1905 seems to be the correct year . My father born in 1927 was 50 when his mother passed away .

Hi
I took a look in the Swedish Church Books and found Charles and August. Their parents' names were Hans Jacob Erlandsson and Anna Sofia Larsdotter.
Gustaf Hansson (Charles Hanson) - Birth - 19 Nov 1858 - Skredsvik Parish:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01lon/
August Lambert Hansson - Birth - 21 Jan 1865 - Herrestads Parish:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01lop/ - recorded in May
Gustaf and August in 1880 Examination Book:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01loo/
They are recorded as being in Australia in 1887. It looks as though Gustaf changed his name, probably because he jumped ship.

Thanks Ian for your information on the Hanson Brothers . Would you believe I actually found the house in Brisbane that Lambert Hanson lived worth his wife Blanche . He died in 1936 . Lambert is the eldest son of Charles Hanson . It appears Charles Hanson is my Great Grandfather . Matt James

You're welcome Matt.
If you want help in Sweden I can do that for you. You should be able to go back a couple more generations if the books allow it that is.

G’day helpers , I’m just posting an update on my request for information on the Hanson Family . I along with 2 cousins have done DNA tests & we have found we have NO dna match to another member of the HANSON family who is a direct descendant of Charles & Annie HANSON née FORD . That rules Lilian Mary Elizabeth b. 1905 being a biological daughter of both Charles & Annie or any of their elder children .
We also have had NO match with the names DONNELLY PICKING etc which rules out Mary Elizabeth DONNELLY b. 1905 daughter of Norah Valentine DONNELLY .
We ALL have close dna matches with the GREENTREE CALLOW CAVANOUGH COWAN COHEN GOSPER HOLMES LANE TURNBULL MARSDEN families from the Tamworth & Windsor area of NSW . While we are waiting on a closer match we do have two 3rd cousins & over eighty 4-6th cousins linking to this family which is a pretty positive result . With the help of the dna we are putting together a family tree & have been helped by other dna matches we have contacted from this GREENTREE line .
Maybe one day someone reading this will be able to link Lilian Mary Elizabeth to the GREENTREE family , we hope so . Thanks for all your help along the way , Matt

This is so fascinating. You mentioned a Byrne name over the fence.....is this still a possibility? Or does it rely on there being a Hanson link back?
So may have been an informal adoption. Perhaps through a church connection or friend of a friend.
Keep ahold of the story from your father as often these family stories have some truth in them but have just got a bit mixed up as they have gone down the generations,
I wonder who lived as a neighnour on the other side? ;)
Do any of the names that you are DNA matched to have locations that ar the same as the ones you know of.

Hi Shanreagh thanks for your message . Yes , it is certainly an interesting story . Me & my cousins have never actually had any Byrne matches . I have found many Byrne families in Gympie & researched them , but it has really all come to nothing . I found through Electoral Rolls that Charles & Annie Hanson we’re actually separated from 1904 to when he died in 1920 . Charles lived in Townsville . Sadly he died in the Brisbane River loading a ship. My father would not have been easily fooled , so I can only go on what he told me . To further add to this mystery our Grandmother had a daughter in 1924 in Nambour , father unknown & again no Birth Certificate . Her daughter married & the two cousins helping me are that lady’s daughters . We are hopeful of finding my cousins Grandfather also . Matt
