Title: Are all Carlow records online for COI?
Post by: hilarykellis on Friday 02 March 18 19:49 GMT (UK)
I'm a little confused.

I've read some sources that they say all COI parish records for Co Carlow are now online on Irish Genealogy's website.

But then in the RCB Catalogue, many Carlow entries say, "some coverage online" implying there are gaps.

I am hoping that they are not all online as I can't find my family in them and am surprised about that...

Another question - it looks like the RCB library's booklet lists the Fenagh, Carlow registers as in local custody.

I've emailed them to ask if they hold a copy or transcript, but does that mean I will not be able to view them at all? Do the priests of individual COI parishes normally perform searches for a fee?

To answer my own question, held locally means that no, the RCB Library does not hold a transcript.

Hi

Why not ring the Clergyman in Carlow Parish and I'm sure - if you ask nicely - they'll organise a look-up for you.

Cheers

I’ve been in touch with him. He does not undertake lookups except in person.

Who are you looking for in Fenagh?

I have, by an extreme stroke of luck, found a certified copy of an entry in the 'Register of Baptisms from the parish of Fenagh in the county of Carlow' that was used for a British Civil Service proof of age document.

The entry is for the brother of my 2nd great grandmother, Anne Dillon, and lists the birth and baptism of Nathaniel Dillon, born 9 May 1845, baptised 8 June 1845, son of Thomas and Eliza Dillon, farmer residing at Ballyknockan, baptised by H S King.

It has taken me years to find any records relating to this family, since the Fenagh records do not seem to be transcribed on any sites, and I live in South Africa.

So I'm looking for any records relating to this family, especially the birth of daughter Anne around 1840/1 (she married in 1862, and from that I know her father was Thomas Dillon, her brother Nathaniel was a wItness), and any other siblings. Of course, the marriage of parents Thomas and Eliza would be fantastic to find, as I don't know Eliza's maiden name.

Any help would be appreciated...

Kind regards, Jo Hugo
