Help needed to decipher this Scottish baptism for Margaret Simpson 1749, the words in brackets (begotten......)
-
Hi,
Begotten in fornication ?
Looby :)
-
I was going to say "in flour reactor" but that didn't seem quite right - your suggestion is better Looby.

Haha - It does look a bit like that. Definitely a bit of a scrawl isn't it ?

The reading is as Looby has said. What is written is:
...(begotten in ffor:
:nication)...

It might be worth looking at the Kirk Sessions records for that time to see if anything is mentioned or punishment and admonishment recorded.

many thanks for all the replies, born in fornication it must be, as there is no marriage record for her parents
