Hello I wonder if anyone can help me,I am looking for help on a lady with the name of ada  jenkin. She used to live in cornwall road williamstown in a rather large house, and ran a shoe shop in brook street, williamstown. My mother who has recently died used to work for her years ago ,subsequently my mother bought one of her many houses off her and a man named Terry Street used to collect the money twice weekly or monthly as the fancy took him.she never married as far as I know but she had a nephew called Dennis Povey. What I need off any of you lovely people is any info ie: deaths births etc,one more bit of info,Terry Street was from the Pontygwaith area, thank you if you can help.

On the 1939 register there's a Mary A Jenkin (born 1890) living On Cornwall Street.
Her probate 18 Oct 1982 lists her as Mary Ada JENKIN of Cornwall House Williamstown.
Death has her birth as Feb 1 1890.

Look at the 1939 address, and then see what the neighbour's numbers are

1911 Cornwall House.

Wonder if it was built by her uncle who came from Cornwall, a builder, same as her father, or if it was just named after his birthplace.

subsequently my mother bought one of her many houses off her

I hate to ask, but is there proof of this, as you say that Ada Jenkin's name is still on the deeds?

I was thinking the same. Without proof of purchase, legally it belongs to her estate I would think.

It seems odd that if she died in 1982 that things weren't sorted out then as her will obviously went to probate and her estate was valued at almost £55,000.

Nothing to add except I made a mistake on my reply-meant to write Cornwalll ROAD not Street.
Sorry.

Hope you get things straightened out.

Your solicitor should be able to have her name removed from the deeds by contacting the Land Registry. Although not quite the same, my solicitor had to do this when it was discovered after her death, that the deeds of my mother's house were still in joint name with my father who had died 10 years earlier. It was quite easy for him to have the name removed, all he needed was proof of my father's death.

However, I think Cas and my concern is that unless you have written proof that Mrs Jenkin did sell the house to your mother, you may have problems. If I were you, I would suggest to your solicitor that he obtains Ada's will and that should name all her estate that she left to her heirs. If your mother's house isn't on there, at least that shows it didn't still belong to Ada.

I hope it all works out well for you.
