Hi all,
Not sure if anyone can help but I am looking for records in Meath in the parish of Killeen and there seems to be a gap in the records, one book ends 1768 and the other doesn't start until 1791.
Does anyone know if there is another book held elsewhere or whether something happened to this book?
I know it covers Killeen, Dunsany and Kilmessan but Kilmessan and Dunsany don't get their own books until 1800's
Thanks

Hi,
We are looking for any Mahons or Cowleys born or married there really.
Possibly John, Sylvester, Nicholas, Cornelius, Lawrence.
Thanks

Hi,
In the Tithe records.....1823 to 1837, Sylvester Mahon lived in Furryhill in the Parish of Kilmissan.
use this link below and match up the names, it does fill in some gaps. Then use the Parish Books for later years.
Mahon

If you click on the link to Irish Ancestors on the menu page of each parish it will bring you to a page giving information on all know records for the parish.

Thank you we have these but can't seem to find births for them anywhere. Think Sylvester dies, Cornelius goes to America with his wife Jane Ward. Nicholas gets married in Meath but not sure where he goes afterwards. So was trying to go back a generation for clues and to find some parents.

Hi, I too am searching for the same records. My family are Webb of Killeen. Have got records from 1796 onwards until present time.(more or less.) but the ones you mention are not to be found.
If you look at N.L.I site. (Catholic Registers) it looks as these particular ones are simply unreadable.
The Mahon family go back a long way in Killeen and are still around.

Hello Karen,
There was a story that a boy named Cox of Killeen went to battle of Tara in 1798.
When he did not return his mother became very upset and eventually the neighbours told her he had been killed. So, she went to the Hill of Tara and searched for his body. She found him but an English soldier threatened to shoot her. Lord Fingal (who knew the family) intervened and allowed her to obtain a shroud for her son. He was the only one of the poor croppies buried in mass grave on Tara.
Also there were Cox,s in Dunsany/Killeen until recently.
