Title: Brickwall Quinton/Quainton?
Post by: Taylor94 on Friday 09 March 18 17:10 GMT (UK)
For awhile I've been stuck on parents for my 7th grt grandmother Elizabeth Quainton.
She marries Thomas Barsby 7 Feb 1743 Gumley, Leic.
She is listed as -
Elizabeth Quainton
Age 20
Birth Year 1723
Status Single
Residence West Carlton
County Leicestershire

I feel Elizabeth might have something to do with these 2 people who were buried in Carlton Curlieu
John Quainton buried 16 Aug 1751
Barbarah Quainton buried 31 Mar 1777
Perhaps Parents?
As John and Barbarah Quinton have a son John Quinton baptised 8 Dec 1720 Billesdon, Leic
Going on this line there isn't a marriage in Leicestershire but there is this Marriage -
John Quainton marries Barbara Billings 1720 Adderbury, Oxfordshire.
Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure that this helps at all, but there is a mention of a John QUAINTON in 1806, in a list of Unclaimed Dividends under the title "Five per Cent. Lottery Annuities, 1717" It states:
"Quainton, John, Souldron, Oxfordshire, Servant _____ Dec 1717"

Jackson's Oxford Journal, Saturday, November 8, 1806, Issue 2793

I'm not sure, but "Souldron" may be Souldern about 5 miles from Adderbury.

Thank you very much for this.
Ive done some more research and it seems Barbara Billings was bapt Jul 1692 Billesdon, Leic. Parents Thomas and Elizabeth. Father Thomas seems to have been a personal servant/Valet to John Dove Esq.
Given this and like you say John is listed as a Servant its possible him and Barbara met in Oxfordshire both as Servants, Married there and had Son John bapt in Billesdon.
There are a few Quaintons in Oxfordshire but no baptisms so not sure if they are of relation and if John name of 'Quainton' is used more over 'Quinton'

May I also ask what actually is a 'Five per Cent. Lottery Annuities'?

I've just seen that on the Baptism for son John 1720 Billesdon, he is listed as the son of John Quinton of Rolleston and wife Barbara. Rolleston is in Nottinghamshire, So maybe this is Johns origin.
I cant see anything of yet. There is a John 'Quinton' bapt 23 May 1697 Sutton Bonington, Notts son of John and Jane. Although this isn't exactly close to Rolleston.
The only other bapt is a John 'Quaintance' bapt Sep 1701 Coningsby, Linc son of John. Same distance from Rolleston as Sutton is.
