Title: Location of the village of Banks, Caithness

According to the old parish records on Scotlandspeople some of my ancestors were  from Banks, Caithness, I think it's near the town of Wick, but I am unable to find it on any maps - can anyone else help locate this village on an old map?

The south side of the Wick River is Pulteneytown, a creation of the British Fishery Society, as Gadget shows, Banks has been a small estate prior to "Pulteneytoon's" time, which joined the burgh of Wick in the late 19th century. Wick Heritage will help here!

Gadget, I think he was chairman? of the society in the 18th cent. Set up a couple of towns in the west. Wickers used to be a bit disrespectful of Pulteney folk! ;D

Thanks for the useful info, Banks is also my surname and my father came from Wick, perhaps there is a link there somewhere! But it's my ancestors with the surname Farquhar/Fraquhar that all came from Banks. The maps have been so useful in finding all those little hamlets and villages that all my family lived in

Every time I've been to Wick, it's been ever so cold.

Love those old maps - we can take a walk around with our ancestors. The NLS should get an award for putting them online.

Wick can be very cold and windy, I've been there there a few times. And yes, old maps are so useful for family historians, it's like a window into your ancestors lives
