My great grandfather, James MITCHELL was born in Hawick, Scotland Oct. 12th 1830. He was one of seventeen in his family. He was a weaver and was well known for his sports activities/championships in tossing the cabre. He immigrated to Canada in 1854. I am interested in talking/finding current Mitchell relatives. From a family of 17 there must be living relatives.

Sorry, we are not a forum for tracing living persons.
If you wish to access records to trace some of the 16 other offspring, then ScotlandsPeople would be the go-to site.

Hi, JohnK Mitchell:
Here are a couple of suggestions:
- You could write a letter to the local newspapers and ask them to publish it in their "letters to the editor" section.
- You could contact the Borders Family History Society (they publish a newsletter with queries; I don't know if you have to join in order for them to publish a query): http://www.bordersfhs.org.uk/
Good luck in your search!
Regards,
Josephine
