Hi all,
I'm hoping for some help in finding out more about my 1st cousin 3x removed Harry Isles.
I have found a newspaper artical about his death in 1909, with some fab information stating..
'The deceased took a very prominent part in the Templar movement in the Dominion, that 'The Royal Templar' says the bereavement which has overtaken the council of the death of it's founder..
Also that he was made the 1st P.C
Sadly he was only 26 when he died.
His father also Harry Isles was the postmaster in Firdale at the time.
I'm in the UK and have no idea how or what other information I could find out?
Any help would be much appreciated

Hi
I had problems finding info on some of my ancestral relatives in Manitoba because of lack of records but there's a lot more on line now. I had lots of help from RC Canadian members :)
In the 1901 census, the family were living Macdonald, Manitoba. They appear to have arrived in Canada in 1891/2
Harry Isles, 46, b. England, arrived 1891,Methodist, farmer
Eleanor, 48, arrived 1892, -do-
William, 20 -do-
Harry, 17, -do-
Eleanor, 13, b. Scotland, -do-
An online tree has his mother as Eleanor Traynor or Tranner.

The online tree has him born in Berwick on Tweed, July 1883.
In 1891 they were in Edinburgh, St Cuthbert.
Do you have access to UK records?

Hi Gadget
Thank you for having a look for my family.
I have only just found out about Eleanor Trainer name as Tranner. Just shows how names can change.
I did know the other facts, but thank you again (I should of added everything that I had known about them)
What had caught my eye, was Harry Isles been known as the founder of a templarism movement in Firdale.
Then also being the 1st P.C according to the newspaper artical.
Now I'm wondering if I could find the grave stone if one was put in place of Harry Isles, Eleanor Trainer/Tranner

That's good to know about the passenger list and ship they arrived on, thank you. Going to have a look and see if I can find a pic
-
I've had a quick look on FindaGrave for Harry but nothing turning up yet:
https://www.findagrave.com/
Might be worth having another look as I've got to go off shortly.
I assume it would be in Firdale.

You're very welcome Liz. Hope it helps fill out your family tree - you never know, relatives may pick up on the thread - due to the powers of google, it happens quite often -
We always appreciate updates if you have the time.
100 years - it is so lovely to read of people getting to be centenarians :)

This site http://manitobia.ca/resources/books/local_histories/208.pdf will take you to volume one of the local history of the Rural Municipality of North Norfolk which includes the location known as Firdale, Manitoba. This file takes a long, long time to download, but has some famiy histories of Isles and Lidster families you might find interesting. Volume 2 of this history can also be found at this site, which has a short history of Firdale including mention of Harry Isles brief operation of a store and post office at Firdale.
Firdale has essentially vanished as a community, but still shows up on maps since it is what is referred to as a railroad siding. There is no cemetery in the immediate vicinity, but the history book has some Isles family members buried at Edrans, another virtual ghost town about 10 mies away. I live a half hours drive away from Edrans and will check out this cemetery for you some nice day and send photos of any Isles related tombstones found.
-
Iv just been having a look at the link you posted Manawakian, thank you very much. Iv been able to add some childrens names to the Litster family. I couldnt find how to search for Volume 2.
Its very kind of you to offer to check out the cemetery for Isles/Litsters for me, Thank you very much again!!
Liz
-
To find volume 2 start here http://manitobia.ca/content/en then click on books, go down the list to North Norfolk and find volume 2. Also on the list of books are Austin and Carberry. The sole listing for Austin and the top listing for Carberry both have brief histories of Firdale with mentions of Isles and Litsters.
-
The 1901 census has birthdates for the Isles:
Harry 11 Dec 1854
Eleanor 21 Aug 1852
William 2 Jan 1881
Harry 6 Jun 1883
Elenor 26 Jan 1888
-
Have posted photos of ISLES, TRAINER, COUCH & LITSTER gravestones on findagrave.com . They have only one cemetery named Edrans Community Cemetery so easy to find, just type the single word Edrans in the spot labelled Cemetery Location and hit Search.
-
Manawakian, your a star!!
Thank you so much for going back to the cemetery and taking those photos. I really apprieciate you taking the time. They are really fab to see!
