Hi - I seem to have come to a bit of dead end on trying to trace some ancestry for a WILLIAM BLOUNT "of Nottingham"
I have in Hull on the census as follows
1881 ("March 30"- census) - Age 55 - Hatter - from Nottingham
1871 ("April 2" - census) - Age 42 - Hatter - from Nottingham
1869 ("March 11" - wedding) - Age 40 - Father is "Robert" (cant quite make out profession of father sadly)
1861 ("April 7" - census) - Age 36 - Hatter - from Nottingham
However I don't seem to be able to find any sort of match in 1841 and 1851. I have also tried "Blant" and "Blunt"
I also don't seem to be able to see a "Robert" for those sort of timescales listed as Father on wedding document. I don't have a birth date for him and because of this if son (William) was born in 1825-1829 (given changes of age above) I am just taking a while stab at "1795-1810" at the moment
Any Nottingham help/guidance would be appreciated.
Cheers

Thanks so much. I had seen the word as "C O R D W A I S" and wouldn't have even known or heard of the word "Cordwainer" until your reply so would never have got it!

Hi and welcome to rootschat ;D
The only William I find born around that time, is on the 1841 census, in Eastwood (which is a village some miles north of Nottingham) father Samual, mother Ann and it looks like William has a twin named Robert. Looks like that William was baptised 2 May 1826 Costock, Nottinghamshire.
I can't find any likely Robert, so maybe the Robert written as father, is really his brother or like on my great grandfathers marriage certs ( two of them) he writes a different father...first marriage he puts his grandfather as his father and the second marriage he writes his uncle, yet his father was alive for both marriages and only after extensive research have I come to the conclusion he and his parents were estranged

1851 has William age 20 bn Ilkeston, Derbyshire still with parents Samuel /Anne in Eastwood - Brother Robert age 20 born same place. That William is still in Eastwood 1861 with wife Ellen

Thanks! I followed up and agree. What is odd though is that there is an Ann Blount at a wedding in Ilkeston with a "William" (no surname found) who by then is a "Cordwainer" (i.e. profession of Robert) that made me suspicious if somehow linked but perhaps not.. Seems to be a lot of Blounts in that area!

I still can't see them in the census or anywhere else for that matter :-\

Thank you for the marriage certificate information.
I could see Ann Elizabeth GASH as grandmother-in-law in household of Emma JOHNSON nee BLOUNT at later census and hoped it might lead to her father's family, but it would seem to be family of Sarah Ann JOHNSON.
