My Dad,s cousin was given away when he was a baby to a family in Derbyshire even though he was wanted by his aunt. He will be 80 yrs old this year, and my Dad wonders if he has had a good life. I can't find a death for him so if he is still alive I won't be able to put his name on here will I? I saw a preview of the 1939 register on Findmypast which showed his name which I thought I wouldn't be allowed to see if he was alive. The family he was given to was Edward Shirley, Bakewell, Derbyshire, according to the 1939 register. Just wondered if anyone can shed any light on the Shirley family.

I didn't notice the adoption bit but he goes under two names , the Shirley name aswell as his birth name

It's possible that he was still alive in 2006 as there is a person with that name and middle initial on the electoral register in Belper, Derbyshire. However, as his record on the 1939 register is open, it is likely that he has died since then.

I am on Ancestry and I found him on there and I sent messages but he hasn't been on for over a year , so you could be right about him being dead. Such a shame because I would have liked him to have known that he was wanted by his blood relatives.
