Hello. My 14th paternal great grandparents are William Drake, Sr. and Elizabeth Pople. We descend through their son, William, Jr. (b. 1613) in High Ham, Somerset, England. William, Sr. was born between 1570 and 1590; however, I have no idea where. I am interested in finding more information about this family.
William, Sr.'s great grand daughter, Mary Drake (1672-1715) is the family's first connection to North America. She and her siblings were all born in Oving, Sussex and she emigrated at some point. Her father, John Drake, Sr. (1640-1682) was the Anglican vicar in Oving when his six children were born there.
I was able to find a marriage record for William and Elizabeth via Family Search about 4 days ago; however, for the past 3 days every time I search on that site I get a message, "No Records Found....Please Try Again Later". I'm sure what 'later' means since I've been trying over three days. I would like find some information about Elizabeth Pople, if possible.
Any information you might be able to find would be appreciated.

Thanks. I saw this link. It provides her name, but nothing else. I'm not sure if I'll be able to find any dates for either Elizabeth or William or information about her parents, but I'll keep trying.
-
I doubt that you will get any more information than this in 1600.
-
That's what I'm thinking. I've gone back to about 1550 or so with other lines, but the information I've found is competely illegible. In one baptismal record, it is impossible to read a single name listed. Thanks for your help.

There are 2 WILLIAM Drakes Bapt High Ham in the right time frame to marry 1600;
23 Mar 1571/72, Father William
13 Mar 1579/80, Father William
Unfortunately they both may have been buried also soon after;
25 Mar 1572, William, Son of William, abode Beer
21 Apr 1580 Wiiliam, no extra info****
**** so not sure if this was the one Bapt 13 Mar 1579/80 so may be the William who married 1600.
+ 2 later Burials;
22 Nov 1656 William Drake Snr*
21 Dec 1680 William Drake, no extra info
Burial of Elizabeth Drake 01 May 1664
1600 Marriage is on FreeREG also under Gulielmus and William Drake to Elizabeth Pople

JOHN 24 Aug 1606
WILLIAM 26 Dec 1613

I did notice a THOMAS Drake was Bapt children there in the same time frame

ELIZABETH Pople Bpt Saint Andrew, High Ham 18 Nov 1582, Father JOHN
-
Thank you for this information. I still cannot see anything on Family Search and have no idea why. This is very helpful.
-
Trish, thank you for the information about Elizabeth's baptism in 1582 in High Ham; however, I do not believe this is the same Elizabeth because there is an entry in the same area which I found in my records:
Name Elizabetha Pople
Gender Female
Burial Date 17 Jun 1603
Burial Place High Ham, Somerset, England
Father's Name Johannis Pople
-
FreeREG is transcribed by volunteers and maybe Familysearch has not noted those records?
Your message just came through;
Sorry she was born and died a few days later. So 1682 Elizabeth may be yours.
ELIZABETH Pople Bapt 10 Jun 1603 High Ham, Father JOHN, note a Twin
The Twin was ALICE Bapt same day.
Alice buried 11 Jun 1603, Daug of JOHN
Elizabeth buried 17 Jun 1603, Daug of JOHN, chaste sister of Alice POPLE
-
I don't believe that the person mentioned in the 1582 baptism record is the right person since she died in 1603.
-
You quoted;
Name Elizabetha Pople
Gender Female
Burial Date 17 Jun 1603
Burial Place High Ham, Somerset, England
Father's Name Johannis Pople
I gave you her Baptism and Twin sisters baptism.
It is noted on burial her sister Alice also.
So she was Bapt 10 June 1803 and buried 17 June 1603
Alice bapt 10 June 1603 and buried 11 June 1603
So that Elizabeth is not the one Bapt 1582.
Trish :)
