Title: Help with 19th Light Battery
Post by: hevside on Wednesday 14 March 18 14:45 GMT (UK)
Hello
Can I ask for your expert help once again.

I have a marriage cert of Alfred King dated 1935 in Norwich. It states his Rank as Lance Bomb RA and his residence as 19th Light Battery, Nelson Barracks.

He is aged 22 at the time.

I am struggling to find more about him, his father was also Alfred King, a food & meat inspector.

I have access to Ancestry and Forces War Records but getting nowhere. Thanks for any advice. Heather

Light Battery probably means Light Anti-Aircraft Battery

Light Battery probably means Light Anti-Aircraft Battery

The unit title 19 Light Battery is correct.  It was one of the batteries of 3rd Light Brigade Royal Artillery which at that time were equipped with pack (aka mountain) howitzers, capable of being broken down to a number of components and transported by mule, hence Light.

Thanks - Everyday a skool day and all that.

By the way I'd cancel your subscription to Forces War Records if I was you ;)

Thanks all,

Military records are not the way to go on this one!

I only ever take a one month sub to war Forces, probably once every couple of years, look up whatever I need and cancel immediately, sometimes you can be lucky but thanks for the reminder.
