Hello
I've recently started looking into my family history and I can't seem to find much information on my paternal grandmother's side. Her name is Patricia (born Calladine 1935, now Johnson) and her siblings were Brian, Terence (b.1945 I think), Agnes, Lily, Phillip, George and Tommy/Thomas. Parents were Phillip and Lily (nee White if I've been given correct info so far). They lived in the West End of Derby during the 1930's and 1940's.
I'm trying to find any information at all on any further relatives but I'm also trying to find information on a car accident that happened in the late 1960's or early 1970's. Terence Calladine, his wife Eileen and Brian Calladine were killed along with Brian's children, Martin and Michelle. Brian's wife, Valerie survived and is still living as far as I am aware. The accident happened in France whilst they were on holiday and it was September, although I'm not 100% sure on the year.
If anybody has any information I'd be really grateful and please let me know if I need to provide any more info myself. I'm very new to this so I don't really know where to look!
Thank you in advance
Rhianna

Hi, thank you so much, this is brilliant.
I didn't know if White was correct, it was the only record I could find. Can I ask where you found all this please? I honestly couldn't find a thing except a bare minimum record that turned out to be wrong and nothing at all on the crash.
Thank you

The very brief newspaper reports were on findmypast. The births and marriage details I also found on FindMyPast.

Interested to know how far back you have traced your Calladine family so far. We have 39 Calladines in our database, mainly spread between South Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire but not sure that our paths cross!.
I would suspect your family were living in a house on the corner of Bridge Street and Brook Street, Derby at the outbreak of WWII
Hope that helps

Hi Alan,
Was Philip Calladine's parents Thomas Calladine (1875) and Maria Gallagher? I seem to be a bit stuck on Philip's wife's (Lily Bradbury's) parents - I have George Henry Bradbury but he is a widow in the 1911 census - Lily had a brother Albert E Bradbury (1899).
About the car accident in France - There was another brother killed Brian Calladine father of the 2 children - his wife Valerie survived but he was injured and brought back to Derby and died shortly afterwards at Bretby hospital.
The awful thing was that Agnes's husband Charles W Taylor (1927) passed away a week after the accident in France :-[

Hi Alan,
Was Philip Calladine's parents Thomas Calladine (1875) and Maria Gallagher?
That would appear to fit with the 1901 and 1911 census returns. Not easy to check on the father prior to that as the options become somewhat confused. Seems to have been known as Thomas whilst Philip was growing up but quotes Charles T in the 1939 Directory record.
I haven't any experience of the Bradbury line I'm afraid

Thank you for your help in this, much appreciated - It's difficult doing research between work commitments but I'm getting there :)

I don't know if you have seen the gravestone at the Nottingham Road cemetery in Chaddesden. I noticed it because my grandma's surname was Calladine
I have a picture but it won't let me upload

Hello sma welcome to RootsChat :) If there is a problem with attaching an image it will come up with an error message "image to big" just resize you image to something smaller than 900kb or change the filename if the filename is already in use.

Hello.
I visited the grave of Brian Calladine today with an old friend of his.
I am aware of the accident as it is mentioned in my friend's book. There is also some information on the grave as to when the accident occurred and where.
If you want more information. Please feel free to contact me.
