Title: No Death Certificate
Post by: margmasson on Saturday 17 March 18 04:55 GMT (UK)
I have twin sons born to one of my husbands ancestors. Both boys were given the name Andrew. One little fellow, born 30 minutes before his brother has a second name. His brother has only one name. On the 1901 census (Ancestry) there is one child, Andrew aged 6 years (born 1894) I cannot find a d.c. on Scotlands People for the other Andrew between 1894 and 1901. Is it possible he was stillborn or died at birth, therefore does not have a d.c.? or would there be some other reason ?. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Marg ,

So twins and only one of them survived ?
From memory I think twins were noted as such on the birth certificates.
Were they both registered at the same time ?

Stillbirths weren't registered in Scotland until 1939.

Thank you, ev. They are noted as twins. Both were registered at the same time, December 26 1894.The informant was their father. There is nothing to indicate that one of them may have been stillborn or died at birth.

Thank you, KGarrad. There is no sign of him being buried in Peterhead with his mother, maternal grandmother and brothers  who died as young children. I guess he is in an unmarked grave.

Have you tried looking for a death without a given name?

Thank you Forfarian. Followed your advise and found him! Don't know why I could not find him earlier as he was there with his full name. He died aged four months from congestion of the lungs
Thanks to all for your help
