Title: Missing place of marriage 1704
Post by: Lady Di on Sunday 18 March 18 05:59 GMT (UK)
According to a record on SEAX: -

John HILLS married Sarah RUST in late 1704 x Lic. (Bishop of London Consist. Court)

They were both from the Thaxted, Lt Dunmow area but I can't find the actual church where the marriage was held despite searching lots of PR's.

I'd appreciate any ideas re the church or town or any thoughts or suggestions .

Thanks

Di

A possible list of adjoining parishes would include, Wimbish, Debden, Lindsell, Broxted, Stebbing,Felstead, Takeley, plus the following Great and Little Sampford,Easton and Bardfield.

I have also had people from that area going to Bishops Stortford as well as London.

The bond says to be married at Stebbing or Little Dunmow

There might be a problem if the marriage was at Stebbing!
Surviving parish registers seem to be only listed back to 1712/13

Transcriptions for Little Dunmow are on FreeReg.
It is of course possible that the marriage took place (presuming it did) at a church other than those given on the marriage bond.

Many thanks for the list of adjoining parishes. Looks like there's still a couple more to check.

Thank You John
That's great news. I hadn't realised that the original Licences were on familysearch. (I could be spending a LOT of time checking those now!)  ;D

I've checked both Stebbing (yes, 1713 start was a little frustrating) and Lt Dunmow but now have a list for others in the area.

I really appreciate all your help.
