Hoping someone may know where Thomas Henry Ryan may have been born in Ireland? We would love to know where in Ireland the Protestant Ryan's are from and why they settled in Chichester. Thank you!
Here is what we have:
Thomas Henry Ryan in 1795 in Ireland,
He married Elizabeth Mitchell (widow)
on July 19, 1814, in Chichester, Sussex - St. Peter The Great Church
In 1818 he is listed as a soldier, 29th Regiment Summerstown
About 1836 Thomas died

Why do think the Ryans were Protestant?
Hardwicke's Marriage Act of 1753 the only legally recognised marriages in England and Wales were those performed by the Church of England; Jews and Quakers excepted.
This remained the situation until the Marriage Act 1836.

Well, I guess the question is how could Thomas Ryan (if he were Catholic) marry a Protestant Englishwoman in July, 1814?

If he was stationed in England there's no reason why he wouldn't marry an Englishwoman but how do you know she was Protestant?

Their marriage is recorded at St Peter the Great in Chichester is Anglican so our thought was that she was not Catholic. Would love some direction.
