Title: Great grandmother Julia Price
Post by: Nicci1 on Sunday 18 March 18 18:44 GMT (UK)
Would someone be able to point me in the right direction. I'm having trouble finding out much about my great grandmothers family. Her name is julia price born on 23rd may 1907 in stoke on trent. Now i have found her birth record and marriage record, she married Bernard Slater. I thought I may find her on the 1911 census so I could at least find her father's name ( her mother died either during child birth or not long after Julia's birth, so we are told). My great uncle has given me the names of her brothers and is hopefully going to try and find what paperwork they have regarding Julia (but I'm impatient and it's driving me mad lol). Would everyone have filled in the 1911 census or did some not bother?
Thanks in advance for any advice

Could you give us the names of her brothers (if they are no longer with us) and we can cross check mothers name is Middleton.

Although if she was born in May, September quarter is pretty late!

Well it's the same year at least!

If her mother did pass away soon after she was born then she must be the youngest so brothers would be older.

The names my great uncle gave me were James, Len, Ernie, Jack and George. They would of all been born before 1907

6 weeks after 23 May brings us to 30 June [almost July! - which will be September quarter] so it may have been a registration at limit of time allowed.

Can I ask where you look that states the mothers maiden name? I've joined ancestry but that doesn't seem to give it

Yes it's on the General Register Office site.  It's free to register and search the indexes.

It’s on the General Register Office website. You do need to register to use it but you can order certificates through there. Do not order via Ancestry as they are at least twice the price and no faster.

You can get a pdf from the GRO which is less money. A PDF is all you need for family history purposes

Can you look up marriages on the gro or just births and deaths?

Births and deaths, deaths have a 100 year lock down, I think - sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong.

You can try freebmd for marriages, or ancestry or familysearch

I can’t yet see Julia in 1911 indexes.
I did notice though that James Price’s mother in Julia so that looks good for that family already posted.

This could be James snr and James jnr in 1911 but not with child Julia  :-\

1910 James junior looks to have married Maud Williams in StokeT QMar 6b 275

1911 look for "Jaine Price" (ancesstry) for James senior ( and the 2 above )

Your initial post was asking for her father's name?

Actual sheet so much nicer than a transcript, don't you think?

Absolutely, Ray  :) -if you have membership but I did think that I was helping there.  :-\

Regarding Julia’s  father’s name, I submitted James and Sarah as possibilities earlier and this would tie in with mmn in birth indexes and 1901 entry.

In addition, James snr’s mother was Julia which supports the finds.

However, to be sure, the birth certificate would show if we have the right family.

and you were, I just added the extra bit plus James snr being recorded transcribed as "Jaine".

Adding the extra bit to Len Price, he was with Ms Middleton's brother and family.

"Every little bit helps"

This definitely seems a good match and fits in with information given to ne by family members.

I just wish I could locate Julia price on the 1911 census. Apart from her birth and marriage records I've found her on the 1939 record when she was married and living in the next street to where her family is located in 1901. I think I may have to accept that I may not locate her on the 1911.
