Ernest Southam was born on 6 January 1920, parents recorded in the birth record as Richard Southam (soldier) and Mary Ann Little of 34 Upper Canning Street.

Turning to the Little side, this looks like a good fit for Mary Ann Little's parents and siblings in 1901 and 1911:

Mary Ann Little was born at Meeting House Lane, Limavady in 1887 to parents William Little and Annie Thompson:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1887/02575/1951977.pdf
Mary Ann's parents, William Little and Annie Thompson, got married in Drumachose Christ Church (Limavady) in 1884, fathers recorded as Robert Little (engine driver) and James Thompson (labourer):
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1884/10908/5984444.pdf
William and Annie are buried in Belfast City Cemetery - Glenalina Extension:
https://ssl.belfastcity.gov.uk/burialsearch/BurialSearch.aspx?GraveSection=Q&GraveNumber=216&CemeteryName=City%20Cemetery%20-%20Glenalina%20Extension
Just a possible birth for William Little, in 1867 to parents Robert Little (engine driver) and Mary Ann Gordon:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1867/03488/2282111.pdf
Robert Little and Mary Ann Gordon were married in Antrim 1st Presbyterian Church on 27 November 1857, bachelor Robert was recorded as a labourer from Antrim, son of Robert (also a labourer), spinster Mary Ann was from the townland of Islandbane and was the daughter of David Gordon (a labourer).
Which reads across to these folk in 1901:

And this from the PRONI Will Calendars index, together with the civil death record: Administration (with the Will) of the Estate of Robert Little late of Ballymena County Antrim Engine Driver who died 14 April 1901 granted at Belfast to Henry Little Engine Driver

With the usual health warning about potential inaccuracy, there is a family tree on the 'Ancestry' website showing (Richard) Francis Amos Southam born at Clifton, Deddington in 1883 to parents Samuel Southam and Susanah Allen and subsequently married to Mary Little. Other detail is shown, including some of what has been posted here, but note my opening caveat.
-
I too saw the family tree on Ancestry showing Richard Francis Amos Southam; I have messaged the grandson who posted the photo to confirm if this Richard could be the father of Ernest but as of yet I have had no reply.
-
I can see being sceptical of family tree content but not sure why you would doubt Richard is the father of the Ernest Southam you are researching.
-
Hello
I am not doubting Richard is the father just treading carefully and hoping his grandson will make contact and share info on Ernest.

Hi, I am the Grandson of Francis Amos (Richard) Southam and Ernest Southam was my Mother’s half Brother, she is 91 and the last of her Family still alive. The details you have mentioned in this post are all correct. My Grandfather was born in Clifton, Deddington and was christened Francis Amos but for some unknown reason which he never divulged called himself Richard when joining the Royal Irish Rifles in 1901 in Birmingham.
