Abraham Heyes was born in Leigh c. 1800 and married Mary Ann Tickle in 1822 again in Leigh. The couple had a few children whilst in Leigh, one of them, Margaret, getting married in Leigh in 1856 to Stephen Langshaw. The marriage record names Abraham Heyes (brewer) as the father, so it seems that he died after 1856. However, I can't find details of Abraham's death or burial and would welcome any help you can offer.

Hi. Checked that out earlier today in the Leigh Cemetery burials record....it refers to a young boy.

That concurs with my findings. :)

Well that is one off the list, also another in 1870 in Bolton area who was 0 yrs, that leave 10 others of the same/similar name between 1856 and 1864 who died in Lancs........ although of course he could have died anywhere and the death will be registered where he died

Bolton Chronicle 11 Mar 1843

FindMyPast burials

Worth checking out?

The GRO confirms age as 49, registered Leigh Union

It is no guarantee on a marriage certificate that a deceased father would be described as such. If the registrar just asked for father’s name that might just be what he recorded.

Is this the same Abraham Heyes whose will (proved 1847) has been posted in another thread?

It is. The Will (attached to that thread) has a codicil attached dated 1849....otherwise a 1847 death for Abraham might be compelling.

From the will itself ...
It was written on 14 April 1840.
The codicil was added on 23 April 1845.***
The will was first proved in Chester on 10 July 1847.
The will was proved again in the PCC on 18 April 1849.
I think you can be confident that the 1847 death/burial records found above are correct.
*** ADDED - I think you may have been misled by the codicil of the preceding will in the register (for Jane Handley), part of which you included in your transcript.

Thanks to all for your help. I must admit that reading all of the evidence so far suggests a compelling case for a 1847 death and burial.
