Title: Aslet and Isted Married 1937 but nowhere to be found in 1939 Register
Post by: BW252 on Thursday 22 March 18 10:45 GMT (UK)
Wilfred K Aslet married Letitia Mary Isted in 1937 in Chichester, Sussex.    WKA born 4 Oct 1908 and LMI born 14 March 1911.    I just cannot find either of them in the 1939 Register.    Have exhausted all permutations for them both.   Any help as usual is greatly appreciated.

The 1939 Register only covers England and Wales - any chance they may have moved to Scotland/Ireland?

I cannot find or think of any link to Scotland.    He died in Blyth, Suffolk in 1980 and she died in Worthing, Sussex in 1987.   Both of his parents born in Hampshire

In that case I can only think that they have been missed off the Register. There is an area in Kent and one in Derbyshire which are apparently missing and FindMyPast do state that there are other "missing" persons, perhaps what they call late registrations, who are not yet included in the Register but may be added as and when.

Expect you've tried but have you the addresses from the marriage to search by address in case they were still there  :-\

Perhaps they went abroad for a bit?  I had a quick look for births to them in England and couldn’t see any.  They seem to have been in Dorking by 1949 and up to at least the early 1960s (per electoral rolls).

As people have said it could be simply that they have been missed off, or for some reason are still redacted. I can't find my grandmother anywhere - she isn't in the house with her husband and children and I know that's where she should be.

thanks to you all for your replies.    It does look like they have been missed off the Register.    Her mother remarried and is on the Reg with her bro but no sign of them.
No sign of them at the addresses given on MC.

many thanks again to you all

Harry

Was he likely to have been in the Services during WW2, in which case he would not be included  :-\

Hi Rosie99

yes thanks I did think that but have done all searches for them as individuals also looking for her with family or even nearby the MC addresses.    No sign of him on WW2 records either.    I have just added them to my ever growing list of "completely disappeared" people in my tree!!!!

There are a couple of mentions of them in the Bognor Regis Observer.

A Mr & Mrs W. K. Aslet win lots of prizes especially soft fruit n the Aldingbourne W.I Flower Show according to the Bognor Regis Observer of 27 July 1938. Letitia Aslet was also in the Aldingbourne Players and played a barmaid in a performance in Lavant in Dec 1937.

So Aldingbourne....

WW2 records are still with the MOD so it is quite possible you would not find anything about his war service  online.

Ernest R Isted b 31 March 1907 is living at Barnham and Larksmead , Nyton Road, Aldingbourne.

Is that her brother?

Two further people 's records are closed, could that be them?

As the both died before 1991 they shouldn't be closed records.

Hi Dillybert, Carol 8353 and emeltom

thanks again for your input.    Ernest R Isted is indeed her brother.   The Howards are her step father and mother.   I have just checked all the addresses given for Nyton Rd and cannot see them at all.    Conclusion must be that they have been closed.

The 2 closed records could be those of the children of William and Florence:   Edward 1921 and Alex 1924 (Letitias half brothers)

They shouldn't be closed records, but ..........stranger things have happened !

Maybe Harry knows who the two closed records belong to?
