Title: Harold Joseph Brown
Post by: bobtonks on Friday 23 March 18 11:03 GMT (UK)
Harold Joseph Brown was born in Impington, nr Cambridge, England in 1897 to Fred and Ada Brown.
There is a death record of Harold Joseph Brown in British Columbia 1980, age 83.

There is a record, 18th May 1917 in the Cambridge paper, that Pte Harold Brown, of the Canadians, was wounded and was the son of Fred Brown.

Is this the same Harold J Brown that died in 1980? Can anyone find any other information, marriage etc, of Harold?

Thank you for looking.   I printed the death certificate and it is most certainly him. (his mother was Ada Louisa Christmas).

I couldn't find the attestation details or marriage details. I wonder if they had any children.

FTR. Harold was one of 12 (twelve) children and in 1901 lived in a 2 down / 2 up terraced cottage in Impington. The house is still there.

Thanks again

If you go to:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01lsh/

and enter his name in the search box (he's the one born 23/12/1896) you can not only see his attestation papers but also download his service file.

Thank you for your help. I managed to access the obituary for Frank, which also gave me the name of his wife, Ina W Phippen, although I can't find when they were married.

There was another brother, Oliver John Brown 1901, The obituary indicates that he is in England but I can't find him anywhere. I've found the rest of the family.

Is there information of when the two brothers emigrated to Canada?

For Frank's marriage use:
https://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.php

Just enter Ina Phippen-it's easier.

Frank arrived in Canada (Quebec) 19 Jun 1927 on board the Doric. A 23 yr old baker going to brother Harold Brown in Killarney,Manitoba.

The link took me to the ships departure !0th June. Travelling with Frank was his brother Guy B Brown who I thought was living in England in 1939 and marrying there in 1940. !!! Did he go and then come back?

The bread shop was interesting ... thank you.

Thanks again for your help.

I found Oliver & Harold 1926. Harold must have gone to Canada (the first time) between 1911, when he was living in Impington, and when he returned to England with the Canadians in WW1. He presumably stayed until 1926 when he went back to Canada with his brother.
I foundOliver's marriage, and their son David, but I couldn't find the record of Guy retuning in 1935.
