Hi,
My grandmother Louisa Emily MILLS was born illegitimate on the 13th March 1902 in Bracknell,Berkshire to Ellen Eliza Mills, father unknown . I know there is sometimes no chance to find the father but I want to try it. I‘ve ordered her marriage and birth certificate but no fathers name ,What can I do ? I know from the 1901 Census that her mother Ellen Eliza Mills worked as a General Domestic Servant and lived with her two brothers and parents in the Searle Street,Bracknell . Later she married 1913 in Easthampstead George North but he isn’t the father . I hope some of you can help me to get more information.
regards
Jane

There might be a small possibility that the Father could be named on a baptism record.
One person connected in my family tree had their Father's name on their baptism record. Mother then married one of my ancestors and the child then assumed his surname.
Good luck with this search!

Are there any records about Ellen Eliza Mills and how can I find out for whom she worked in 1901?
Sometimes the employer was the father of a illegitimate child.

Hi,
There is a George North bapt. 10-1-1864 in Binfield, Berks s/o Joseph & Mary Ann, Labr (BerksFHS bapt. index) and also;
1901 census for Winkfield, Berks;
William North, head, aged72
George North, son, aged 39
Alfred, son aged 25,
Louisa, dau aged 23
Eliza Gray, cousin aged 20 - all born Winkfiled
Is this the person of interest?

Thanks for that, if the above is correct, the 1911 aged 40 would appear to be incorrect?

Thanks for the information for George North but I don’t think he is the father of my Grandmother. Where can I look after the baptism record for Louisa Emily Mills born 1902 Bracknell?. I live in Germany and only once a year in England .

Look, I do not think he was the father also of Louisa Emily, but possibly Louisa was not baptised, and then you will be stuck again?!

Hi Jane,
I see Louisa was born in Bracknell per 1911 census. If this is correct the Parish Registers are held by the Berks Records Office in Reading.
Bracknell Holy Trinity would be the church and records held cover 1851 to 2000
For Ellen Eliza Mills born 1878c in Warfield, Berks per 1891 and 1881 censuses and again the registers
are in the Berks RO for Warfield St.Michael.
As a suggestion, because I see you are in Germany, it may help if you wrote to the Berks Records Office and ask for them to look up the original registers. They will probably charge a fee and will be cheaper than a visit. They might also supply a copyof the original for you.
Try contacting them first their address is;
