I have the above born 1919 and was married to a Hannah Mary Hughes in Carmarthen. I see he died 1978.
They had two children,I cannot locate his parents and family. Would anybody be able to help me please.
-
Only one I can find;
Birth Reg;
June 1918
Coppard, Horace, Bromley, 2a 863, Mothers mn WEEDON
Have you looked for him on the 1939 Register on Findmypast?
Trish :)
-
Marriage Reg;
Sept 1909 Bromley, 2a 1205
Frederick Henry COPPARD and Ethel WEEDEN on same page
Birth reg is only 1 year out from Horaces Death Reg.
-
In last Census available look for Ethel Coppard born c 1884 St Mary Cray, Kent.
-
I can't find him on findmypast 1939. I know he is on there in 1942 on his marriage!!
Makes me curious why he ended up in Wales??
-
Horace may be in the Military 1939.
Cant find his Father in 1911 Census but he appears to remarry 1924 to Ellen K Barber (FreeBMD)
1939 Register has in Dartford, Kent;
Frederick H Coppard 1883
Ellen K Coppard
4 more people who are officially closed
Someone has a private Tree with the 1924 M/C mentioned.
It may be worth getting that 1942 M/C.
Trish :)

Thank you. This is a step closer.
-
I wonder how he went from Bromley area to Wales. I can't find him anywhere? ???
-
I can't find him anywhere?
Do you mean Horace?
He wouldn't be on the 1911 Census as not born yet. 1939 Register he may be in the Military.
-
Yes Horace is who I mean? I can't find him anywhere either ???
-
As Trish said he would be too late for 1911 and possibly in the forces for WW2. Perhaps that is how he met his future wife and ended up living in her home town. Have you found the wife in 1939
-
Ah no I haven't actually.
-
She is still on electoral registers in 2013 so we probably won't find her.
-
If can't find Horace either in 1939!
-
I suspect he was probably in the forces unless you know different
-
No I don't know different. Maybe I should research him being in the Forces then?
-
WW2 service records are still with the Ministry of Defence. (Don't be tempted to sign up to websites that say they have them.)

Oh really? Thank you for the advice.
It’s so frustrating not knowing their next step or seeing him anywhere.
-
Do you have his marriage certificate
-
I think I've found him in 1939. If you look at the free search there is only one Horace Coppard and the free index says Horace E Weedon is at the same address. ( I logged out of FindMyPast to be sure of not giving any forbidden details . )

No I don’t have his marriage certificate unfortunately.

Ah wow that’s interesting. Is he in Wales or Kent if you don’t mind me asking?
-
You can do a free search of the 1939 and it will give the location for him though not the address.
-
I can’t find him on there.
Born 1918/1919??
-
If you are using F M P just put Horace Coppard into the 1939 search - no more information
The record is still blacked out on Ancestry
-
Ah ok I found him in 1939 but obviously not the address.
Thank you.
I wonder why or how he went to Wales?
-
You would probably need the marriage certificate. It would confirm his abode and occupation at the time.
As for why he went to Wales, was his wife born there or living there prior to their marriage. Maybe he had employment that took him there.
-
Other forums on this man say that his father filed for divorce in 1921, so he had a disturbed childhood. They also recommend the marriage certificate.
As a single man aged 20-22 he may have been called into the reserve in late 1939, by 1942 he should be in the army, or medically unfit or in a reserved occupation. His occupation on his marriage cert. may provide a clue as to why he was in wales.
Carmarthen is a large reg. district and extends downward to more industrialised ares
