Ernest lived on Dandenong Road, Melbourne until he died in 1938. His wife, Jane Nottage, died in 1921 and they didn't have any children.
My family remember visiting an Aunt Kate at the Dandenong Road house as late as 1964. We cannot establish who this Kate is. She was not married to Ernest (as far as records show), and was obviously about 30 odd years younger than Ernest.
I have found address of 38 Dandenong Road from Voters lists, but the numbering is likely to have changed over the years.
Does anyone have any ideas of how to trace who this Kate is that lived at the Dandenong Road house in around 1964.
Thanks
Wendy

Given that records have Ernest born in 1862 and Kate in 1870, there was only an 8 year age difference and not 30ish, as you thought.

Death notices on page 13. No children mentioned, but Aunt to Bennett's and Quinton's:
RATCLIFF Kate Death notice 21-11-1965 Death The Age (Melbourne) 25-11-1965
RATCLIFF Kate Death notice 21-11-1965 Death late of Caulfield The Age (Melbourne) 24-11-1965

Of note, all records both Australia and UK show Ratcliff without an ending 'e'.

So you should be looking at Dandnenong Road, North Caulfield and the south west corner of Norwood Street and Walora Road. Appears to be three lots two of which are occupied by a block of flats.
You can check the address google maps.

There are probate files at PROV for Ernest and Kate. Ernest's probate file was resealed in NSW and the estate value was £644 on which probate duty was assessed in that State.

They owned the land until the 18th of August 1939 when it was acquired by Ernest Henry Montague Ratcliff (1863-1938). Ernest was also a Director of the nearby Glen Iris Brick Company.

Thank you everyone! That is awesome. I would love to know how you find this info. I had searched bdm and couldn't find anything.
When searching bdm try using entries such as Er* instead of Ernest
Or use middle name
Also widen the dates as sometimes a December birth can be registered in January the following year
