In 1839 James Peck married Ann Abigail Mansfield in Histon Cambridgeshire. Her father was recorded as John Mansfield. In the 1841 census her age is given as 20 (1821).
Can anyone see where she was born, her parents (John & ??) and her siblings?
-
Is she alive in 1851? That census entry should hopefully give a clearer indication of birthplace.
-
I wonder why Essex is written for her in the final column of 1841 - is Essex considered a "foreign part" :-X
Do you think it reads Essex or is it supposed to be something else like Ireland :-\
-
Looks like she was buried as Ann Abigail Peck at Histon, 14 Jan 1848, aged 27.

Little boy John Mansfield Peck baptised 19 Sep 1847 Histon

Thanks for looking. Yes, she died 1948, and James married Alice Leet in 1950.
I didn't know about John Mansfield Peck, but it looks like he died 1848. Probably Abigail died in childbirth. Bit sad. I see what you mean re ESSEX in 1841. Usually they just put NO if out of county.
I still can't find Abigail's mother or siblings.

A John Mansfield wid of Gt Chishill married an Abigail Bush in Saffron Walden on 4 Oct 1813. Near Cambs border and mother called abigail - could be worth a look.
-
According to Ann Abigails marriage her father John's occupation was a wheelwright.

Then a Thomas baptized to same parents in 1821
And a daughter Phoebe baptized June 1823. That one says John is a wheelwright (image 695)

welll done. I found Abigail 1819, then OH wanted to be fed and have only just washed up from dinner and back to RC. This family in Gt Chishall look like they're the one. Can see Gt Chishill church from my back window, if only walls could talk. ;D

Gosh. Well done. .... I've been out to a Village Society meeting and came home to all this info .......maybe go out more often. Joking aside, the info is really helpful. There were lots of Mansfields in Histon/Impington where James and Ann Abigail were living in 1841 and assumed, (wrongly) that Ann Abigail was probably related to one of them.
And Gt Chishill is just up the road from Saffron Walden.
Thanks again.

Will of Samuel Bush the elder, carpenter of Clavering 1817 leaves a bequest to his daughter Abigail Mansfield. Samuel has sons, Samuel, John and Joseph and two other daughters, Sarah Chesham and Elizabeth Bush. Presumably Elizabeth was unmarried when he made his will. If he named them in age order, Sarah was oldest, the Abigail and Elizabeth youngest.
-
Will of William Bush carpenter of Clavering in 1816 mentions his father Samuel and brother John as executors, so Samuel the elder had another son who predeceased him. He leaves money to his siblings including Abigail.

Abigail bapt 25 May 1788 (born 8 April) at Clavering d/o Samuel and Anna Bush

The will of William Mansfield of Gt Chishill mentions his wife was Ann.
-
William Mansfield widower married Anne Marshall spinster on 24 May 1778 at Gt Chishill, both made their mark. Witnesses Jacob Smith and Thomas Smith

There is a Sarah Mansfield bapt Gt Chishill in 1775 d/o William and Amy, so she could be child of William's first marriage.

William Mansfield died at Gt C on 7 April 1820 and was buried there on 10th April. Burial record says he was age 77. There is a marriage for a William Mansfield and Amey Chapman at Ashdon botp on 6 Aug 1764, both made their mark. WitnessesThomas Larkin and Thomas Chapman. William and Amey have three daughters baptised in Ashdon, Charlotte 1765, Ann 1768, Amey 1771.
There is a burial for an Amey Mansfield in Ashdon on 30 July 1775, it doesn't mention age or whether she was a child, so don't know if it was William's wife or daughter.
added
just checked back for actual date of the baptism of Sarah in Gt C, it was 15 July 1775, so it could fit with Amy dying not long after childbirth, if they are the same William / Amey couple.

In 1800 a John Mansfield was apprenticed to Lois Pitty of Clavering, Wheelwright
