Post by: CarlBuck on Wednesday 28 March 18 22:28 BST (UK)
For some time now I've been looking for information on my great grandmother Margaret ann Hill who was born around 1887, i believe she married James milburn in 1906/7 and died after 1931 as margaret ann dyson.

Had a quick look and it appears Margaret is likely to have been born in Leigh, Lancashire in about 1887 - perhaps you already know this as you had that date.

If you want to look for them in the 1911 census it may help you to know (if you don’t already know) that the couple had a son James Milburn, registered in Pontefract Jun qtr 1910.

The free index for 1911 suggests they may have been mistranscribed in at least some sources as Millburn.  (But you seem to have submitted a correction on that, so I think you are ahead of me anyway).

What do you know of Margaret’s children (NB don’t name any living ones on here)?

The last Milburn/Hill birth reg I can see in Pontefract is George in 1913.  Did she have further children with James Milburn or anyone else?

Do you know what happened to James Milburn?

Perhaps she is the Margaret Milburn who married Thomas Smith in Pontefract district, Sep qtr 1915?

I think she marries Thomas SMITH 3 Jul 1915
Marriage Place:   Purston cum South Featherstone, St Thomas, Yorkshire, England
as Margaret MILBURN...widow father- James HILL.

Image is on Ancestry.

She and Arthur P Dyson are on the 1939 register as Ann M DYSON and Percival A DYSON Morley M.B.

Ah.  We didn’t know about the Millward connection.  I see that the Millward/Hill children’s births were registered in Wakefield 1920-1927.

Well it is all very confusing.  Do you know who fathered the Millward children?  I would suggest you have a look at the 1939 Register (on Findmypast) using Maureen’s tips, and tell us who is in Percival A Dyson’s household so that we can help you take it from there.

Playing around with the free index suggests that a Henry J Millward might be in the vicinity.  Surely not a menage a trois?

George ephraim millward was the father of the millward children, i never found a entry of a marriage for him and Margaret i find it all very confusing myself  :-\

Since she was a Smith when she married Mr Dyson, it looks unlikely she married Mr Millward in between.

I see - so he was George Ephraim Milward mmn “Oldridge”, birth reg Dec qtr 1886 Basford.

Parents in fact were Ephraim Horatio Millward and Pamela Alldridge, married Dec qtr 1877 Dudley.

One of their other sons was John Henry Millward b 1881 Wolverhampton, who seems to have thought he was born in June 1880 per various records (naval and otherwise) and is likely to be the Henry J Millward whom I found on the 1939 free index.
