Does anyone know whether it is possible to obtain a death certificate for a relative who died in 2012 in the Paris region of Kremlin Bicetre please? I am not a direct relative in that this person was married to my Great Uncle, my Grandfather's brother.
Thanks for any help.

I should add that I live in England, not France.

Hello, the certificates have to be ordered at the town hall of the arrondissement of Paris where the death took place . You have to give the precise date . They won't search for you.
You can do it on line , each arrondissement has its own site . Death certificates can be ordered by anyone ( not birth or marriage certificates).
Kremlin Bicêtre is not an arrondissement of Paris , it is a city . If she died there you will have to contact the town hall of Le Kremlin Bicêtre.

If you don't know the precise date , try to get it by family papers and then ask the town hall.

Thank you joger, great information. I know her exact death date so should be no problem. Didn't know you couldn't order birth or marriage certificates. Thanks again.

Only direct descendants can order them, and have to give proof.
If you don't speak french, feel free to ask me how to fill in the on -line form.
-
Thanks joger. She was the daughter of my Great Uncle, my Grandfather's brother. That makes her my father's cousin of course. Do you think that would be OK please?

I have her father's death certificate, also his will which includes her name.

Anyone can order a death certificate , any time , even for somebody who died yesterday, even if this somebody is a stranger to you.
But if you want to get a birth certificate you will have to prove you are a direct descendant (child or grandchild). Or wait 75 years, and then anybody can ask for this birth or marriage certificate.
How old was she in 2012?
ADDED: In France

She was born in 1924.

Is there a fee for obtaining a record? Don't mind paying but don't have a credit card to pay, only Paypal. Don't know anyone who has a credit card either.

As she was born in 1924 (that's more than 75 years'ago) , anybody can get her birth certificate , as long as you have her precise date of birth, and place of birth.
Do you know where she was born?
-
Yes, she was born in Canterbury, Kent, England.

Sorry, joger, just realised someone in the family already has her birth certificate, but would very much like her death certificate, also those of the people she was buried with.
Susan
-
Never mind, you can order her death certificate for free, but they will send it in an enveloppe and may ask to be paid for the enveloppe and stamp, or send it for free.
Good luck.

Is she buried in Le Kremlin Bicêtre?
-
No, Ivry Communal Cemetery. Through my family tree I am in touch with someone who lives in Paris and he kindly took some photos of her grave which has the family's photos on it. Unfortunately I don't know what she looked like so can't identify who was who! I had previously contacted the Ivry Town Hall by telephone aand, although I don't speak French, the lady on the other end spoke broken English and managed to give me the exact grave location and details of all the other people in it as well, very kind of her.

So pleased with all the advice you have given me joger. I will let you know if I do manage to get Mary's death certificate, also that of her husband who died the year before. I don't think they give cause of death on French certificates? They don't on Italian cerificates.
Susan
-
No, you won't know the cause of death. This is what is called medical secret.
Glad to have been able to help you , don't hesitate to contact me to help you fill in the online form at he address I gave you up in the thread.
-
Will do joger. Thanks again.
Susan

Thanks for adding the table regarding access to the records by number of years.

Mary's death certificate arrived today! They didn't charge for it.
