Hello, thought I would attempt to upload my results to another site.. eeek
So chose my Heritage -
My Ancestry results were not what I expected... but saying that I really didnt know what to expect.
Yes they cleared up the major niggle I had.. because they prove I am who I am... which is good.
So now we will see what this one throws up..
I have added a direct line (both sides) small tree..
Nervously awaiting any communication from that now.
Fingers crossed. If all negative then I will get back to doing things without the DNA results.
Cos it really has slowed down my normal research all this segmenting and stuff. :) :)

I hope you get some useful results - or meet up with other researchers who can swap ideas/information with you.
You are right about it being a distraction!! I wish some sites had better ways of grouping the matches.
-
Yes thats it all uploaded -- so now just wait and see ...
eek
I too wish you could group them better on Ancestry, I am throwing out so many so called matches.
may regret it.
I haven't got enough living years left to go through all of them.. ha ha ha.

I'm a novice at this whole DNA ancestry thing too.
I'm just embarking on chromosome browsing......it's something I'm having to approach very slowly
When I start to get swamped I remind myself that the scientists who are researching this very specialized field have been studying it a great deal longer than me, it's a very new discipline to the general public and I'm only ever going to comprehend it at the most basic level.
I read/watch the various tutorials and hope that some of it will sink in ;D :D

Thanks Jill
looks like you have an extra chromosone or two that creates duplications :) ha ha ha

Well well well
suddenly I am 100% ENGLISH
for goodness sake
The Ethnicity thing is a total waste then one site telling you one thing and the other nothing like it...
So there you go.. I am happy to be ENGLISH cos I knew I was.. 7 - 10 gens via paper trail..
and breathe...

My niece asked me this question last weekend, and I don't know the answer!
If two identical twin men marry two identical twin women, surely their children will have exactly the same DNA make up?
I don't even know if identical twins have identical DNA? If they do, maybe my niece is right?
I bet its more complicated than that!! ;D

BIB - No. You only inherit 50% of your DNA from each parent and what you inherit is random. Therefore the chances of the 50% male parent 1 passes onto to his child being the same as the 50% male parent 2 passes on to his child being the same is minutely small (if not impossibly small) and similarly with the two mothers.

Yes, I follow that - I think!
What about identical twins? Do they have the same DNA make up?

There was a thread on here a while back that discussed this very issue.
Rather than try and paraphrase what it said a couple of articles that will probably make more sense than me

Thanks - I hadn't appreciated I was covering old ground. I'll have a read of the links you sent.
