Hi folk's,Stanley was my Grandfather's youngest brother living in Rawling Road Gateshead
in the 1911 cencus aged 9.He's the only member of the family That we cannot find a trace
of,my father and his cousin were named after him both born in the early 1920's my father
alway's said he was involved in some kind of tragedy but never said it involved his death
if so I would imagine this would have occured between 1911 and 1922/3 I cannot find a death
anywhere that might be him just wondered if anyone had any suggestion's certainly I know my
father never met him despite knowing the rest of his uncles/aunts.
Regard's Steve.

Which of these entries is he - there is no 1902 birth? Both have middle names
Births June qtr 1901
SMITH Stanley John Gateshead 10a 1063 - mmn Dodd
Births September qtr 1901
SMITH Stanley Lawson Gateshead 10a 1045 -mmn Lawson (this one died 1983)
-
Looks like it could have been his second name he was known by - an Ernest Stanley Smith, mmn Watson, birth reg'd Sept.qtr.1901.
Parents appear to be a William Abbey/Abbay Smith and Catherine Watson who married 1878 in Newcastle upon Tyne.
An Ernest S Smith bc.1901, died Sept.qtr.1919 Gateshead which sounds like it may well be him. Only 19 years old. Dying so young would explain why your family never knew him.

Hi folk's,just another thank you for the info,Boo put up a link to Saltwell Cemetery recently
and I was able to find Ernest Stanley's burial in 1919.I had some information from the record's
for over twenty year's his mother's grave reference and the two other's in the grave which were
his oldest brother and sister in law,his fathers grave is nearby the very helpful person at the
civic centre didn't list any other's buried and lo and behold Ernest is in the same plot so really
the mystery could have been solved many year's ago,one thing struck me was he is buried in
concecrated ground so hoping this rules out him taking his own life as the alleged tragedy.
