Hi
Does anyone know where old post office place is or was in Widnes. I have it on a 1911 census but have never heard of it. I do live in Widnes

Hi Carolyn,
I've had a look at several maps on the NLS site and can't find a P.O. marked until 1928/36. It was opposite Oakland St at the junction of Mersey Rd and Waterloo Rd. it seems to be a large open area so maybe at some point it was known as P.O. Place. There is no P.O. marked on a 1911 issued map (surveyed 1909).
Have you looked at the surrounding streets on the 1911 Census to try and get an idea of the area it was in?
Could you post the Census ref here so others can investigate?
Regards,
Malcolm.
