Hi
I am helping a friend look for relatives of her father Daniel Edward Edwards.
Daniel Edward Edwards was born in 1922 and was brought up by some family members in Tongwynlais, Glamorgan. My friend thinks that they may have been grandparents but we can’t seem to find anyone of same name. They ran the chip shop in the main road in Tongwynlais.
Daniel Edward Edwards parents were Daniel Edwards born 1904 and Violet Davies born 1901 They married in 1922.
We don’t have a marriage certificate yet for Daniel and Violet that we would hope give their father’s names.
We think the years could be any time between 1922and 1942 when he married
Daniel Edward Edwards served in the Royal Navy. So some of the latter years he may have enlisted.
I am hoping that someone may have some local knowledge that could help my friend who lives in Australia.
Thanks
Gill

Hi Rosie 99
His daughter said he wasn’t registered for years but was born in 1922. His daughter’s date of birth was 1945. He was married in 1942. I wonder why he wasn’t registered for many years.

I think you could possibly be right with that birth registration Maureen :)
The 1922 entry I posted was handwritten at the bottom of the page, so added when the 1933 certificate was issued.

Yes 1922 confirms what we know and I know his parents were Daniel and Violet. I wonder in anyone has access to electoral records for tongwynlais for the chip shop to see who lived there between 1922 and 1942 (when Daniel married) to see if I can tie the owners to Daniel’s family. My friend is not sure whether they were grandparents or other relatives and has no one to ask.

I now have a marriage certificate for Daniel and Violet. It states that Daniel’s father when they married was deceased but his name was Phillip Edwards. At the time if Marriage Daniel was living at Lock House tongwynlais. And Phillip was was employed as a foreman railway plate ?
Daniel was employed tin plate ? In tin works which I am presuming May be Melingriffith .
Violet’s father was Arthur Davies. Violet was living at time if marriage at Church Street, Tongwynlais. I still can’t seem to find either of the families on 1901 or 1911 census. I think one was born in 1901 and the other in 1904 but can’t seem to find their father’s.
Phillip Edwards must have died between Daniel’s birth and 1922
Thanks for any more help I may get,
Gill

Hi Gill,
Do you have the marriage witnesses for Daniel and Violet, please?
Also is there an actual house number on Church Street for Violet?
I have a strange feeling that Arthur DAVIES was born Henry Arthur DAVIES. There's a Henry Arthur Davies in the British Army WWI Pension Records 1914-1920 on Ancestry. Says born 1879 Tongwynlais, Glamorgan. His NOK is daughter Violet of 4 Church Street.
If he's the one I think he is then he was actually born ~1873 Tongwynlais. (son of John and Abigail)
I see him on the 1901 census with wife Catherine A and children Trevor and Olwen.
4999/106/15
I think this is possibly Violet living with her aunt and uncle in 1911:

I'll let you see what you think.

As for Daniel EDWARDS....look for a Price EDWARDS born 1900 Llantwit on the 1901 and 1911 census.

Hi Maureen
Thanks for your reply. I also came across the 1901 census for henry Arthur Davies. My friend told me she thought Violet had a sister called Olwen so yes this seems really possible. They were living at Queens square according to the census.
There is no number on certificate for Church Street.
The witnesses were T Edwards and E Williams.
I couldn’t find Lock Cottage or Church Street on the census.
Thanks you so much. I always think there are always a lot of clever people on here willing to help

Hi Maureen
If this is right and Violet is living with her aunt and uncle then possibly Violet may have taken on the surname Jones.
I see that this could fit especially since I have been told that there was a relative in the family who was called Margery Lightbody. Margaret’s maiden name was Jones.

Well,I'm not sure about the Jones/Lightbody connection!
It's difficult to say if Violet was known as JONES or if it was just that one census.
Have you been able to see the actual image for the 1911 census by the way?

I see who you mean:
FreeBMD
Births Sep 1913
Jones Margery mmn Davies Cardiff 11a 718
Could be a cousin!
But with a name like JONES.....

Hi Maureen
Yes checked census for 1911 which also gives address as 4 Church Street.. think I need a map of who is related to who. I think that John and Abigail are also the parents of Abigail wife of Daniel.
Thank you for helping me get back...I hope
