That birth registration gives MMN Wake which ties in with 1886 marriage for Charles & Amelia Jane  :)

hi guys

I know about brother Frank. he went to join the army. that's why he doesn't appare on the 1911 cencus and yes that birth reg is right lol. should I get the birth cert to see of there is any more info on there ?
suggestions anyone ?

The birth cert would give you exact date of birth. She might have been born late 1899 and still be registered in Q1 1900. If you have access to FindMyPast or can get access at a library, you could search on date of birth and Lizzie without a surname on the 1939 register

I can try that yes. but how will it help if it has no surname ? also she was in school at the time so didn't have a profession. so I can't link them either

Mother Amelia Jane seems to have left a will.

Probate calendar 1937

Corps AmelIa Jane of Manor Cottage Stokesley Middlesborough widow died 14 Jan 1937 at Highcroft Ruscombe Twyford Berkshire Probate York 16 March to Charles Corps railway dock superintendent.

It might be worth obtaining a copy of this will.

Lizzie Corps baptised at Stokesley 16th Jan 1900 (so probably born late 1899 as suggested by Lizzie)

Parents Charles and Amelia Jane CORPS father a gardener.

If you have an exact date of birth, there can't be many Lizzies with that dob in 1939, it should give a short list of possible new surnames to work through and eliminate.
She may have married and surname badly transcribed on GRO  index, or married outside England / Wales. She could have changed her surname because she didn't like it.
Apart from Stokesley and Reading are there any other places associated with the family?

I ment her changing her first name not surname because she didn't like it.  ;D

Nothing wrong with Lizzie for a name ;D

It is her father Charles who did not leave a will as the Probate Calendar has this

Corps Charles of Manor Cottage Stokesley died 17 April 1933 Administration 19 May Newcastle Upon Tyne to Amelia Jane Corps widow and Charles Corps...

If it says Administration in the Probate Calendar it means they died intestate. The documents are unlikely to tell you anything more. If it states that Probate was granted in the Probate Calendar there is a will. I have double checked - Amelia Jane Corps left a will.

Another possibility to concider could be that Lizzie has been committed to an institution and would be recorded by her initials. Alternatively she could have emigrated but I have not found her in any of the indexes.

There are 38 pages of Lizzie born 1900 in the 1939 register without an actual birth date it is like looking for a needle in a haystack  ;D

You can order them from the find a will website:-

https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/Calendar#calendar

This should take you straight to the page with Amelia's name.  Just fill in the form on the right and I think the cost is £10.

Looks as though the link I gave you isn't going to work.  Use this one instead.

https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#calendar

When you open it, make sure you have the years 1858 to 1996 showing.  Enter the surname Corps and the year 1937.  When it comes up you can then fill in the details on the form on the right.

If you get stuck, ask for help.

Hi,

A bit of different idea, could she have joined the Women's Royal Air Force?

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7499974

Something must be misspelt as I can't find a Lizzie CORPEN anywhere ???

Daisy

Do I take it that you have bought the record and you can't read it because it is twisted in some way?

If so you should complain to National Archives and tell them it is unreadable.

Hi,

A possibility for Lizzie,

Marriage
Herbert WIGGLESWORTH    Sep Q 1939    Bromley Kent    2a  3843
Elizabeth CORPS

In 1939 it looks like they are living in Farnham, Surrey.

I think this is Herbert,

Birth
Herbert WIGGLESWORTH    Mar Q 1900    Pontefract  9c  104

Baptism
Herbert
Wesleyan-Methodist Chapel:  Knottingley
County:  York
Born:  16 Jan 1900
Baptism Date:  1 Mar 1900
Herbert  son of
George Herbert & Lavinia WIGGLESWORTH
Abode: We?land Road, Knottingley

Death
Herbert WIGGLESWORTH    Feb 1991    Hastings and Rother    18  944
DOB:  17 Jan 1900

I haven't found an Elizabeth WIGGLESWORTH after 1939 that fits yet, I wonder if they were posted abroad in WW2 ?

Daisy
