Post by: Mike Thw on Wednesday 04 April 18 16:24 BST (UK)
In 1861 at  RG 9; Piece: 1441; Folio: 87; Page: 35 I have Thomas Cross.

Can anybody "translate" his birthplace!?!

His birthplace is given as Thrushelton in other censuses.

Baptism, Thrushelton parish church

12 August 1832

Thomas Cross, son of Edmund (a labourer) and Dionysia, of Axworthy.

Now that's very interesting!

Where is Axworthy by the way. Google maps refuses to show me.

It is (or was?) a hamlet in Thrushelton by the looks of it.  Not my area, sorry.

Offering you a grid reference!  But not a map which is prepared to name either Thrushelton or Axworthy.

Edit: sorry, it does name Axworthy if you zoom in enough.
