I can't see a birth/baptism either but the marriage is

Herbert Waters/Hannah Crawley Mar 1871 Portsea 2b 578

The certificate should give her father's name, with a bit of luck!

I was wondering about them but was still unsure about Hannah's birth reg for this family ???

Just going back to the Portsea family, I can see the siblings 1881

CRAWLEY, JULIA        PELLINGTON
GRO Reference: 1866  J Quarter in PORTSEA ISLAND  Volume 02B  Page 389

and presumably this is Ann on the 1861 who was as born Portsea and here it is N K Northumberland

EDIT***Should have looked first!

Just looking at marriages and a Margaret Crawley marries Francisci Cox....7th Regt. Anglesea Barracks, Portsea

For Margaret father Michaelis Crawley, but there is another Duggan who is a witness, might be worth pursuing

Wits Thomas Connelly  Ellen Duggan

Hi sorry that name should be

Pellington

Possibly Hannah's parents are Michael Crawley (confirmed by details on her marriage) and mother is possibly Ann Pellington.

The name Duggan crops up as witness to Hannah's marriage to Herbert Waters and to Margaret Crawley's marriage to Francis Cox as mentioned in earlier posts.

Hi

Odd thing that joannis mercer is stated as the father of Herbert waters

As the record of herberts baptism in mountfield Sussex is given as Sophia waters ( single woman )

But I have discovered in the census of 1871

Potters district of portsea island

Margaret Crawley. 48 a charwoman born Ireland

A widow

And

Annah Crawley 21 a soldiers wife ( married) born Middlesex

So this may be hannah b 1850 from portsea but actually born in Middlesex

And the marriage you found of Herbert waters to hannah Crawley 11/1/1871 in Portsmouth as Herbert 1861 was a soldier

Cannot make out the joannis mercer ??

Presumably if Herbert was born to Sophia, a single woman, she may have told him that his father was a John Mercer.

As Annah Crawley is married to soldier called Crawley what are the chances of her maiden name being Crawley as well.

The entry for the marriage gave Hannah's father as Michaelis (Michael) Crawley. if you go back through the posts you will see the details.

Well funny enough........Michael Crawley and Ann Pellington are my GGGG Grandparents, I come through down their daughter Ann's line - she did indeed marry Edward Brimecome (3rd July 1878).

Ann Pellington died 29th Sept 1905.

I cannot find a suitable Death record of her husband Michael Crawley. Anyone ??? Apart from the one in Portsea 1866....but that gives a Birth date of 1828....which I guess 'could' be correct.......what are the thoughts of the RootsChat Jury ???

Apologies in slightly de-railing the Thread. I saw it when I put 'Ann Pellington Northumberland' into Google.

I don't think that Hannah is one of theirs.....
