Title: Cafe Buildings, Shiprow
Post by: RWTaylor on Thursday 12 April 18 20:03 BST (UK)
The certificates for several of my family show that they were married (at the end of the 19th/start of the 20th century) at Cafe Buildings, Shiprow in Aberdeen. I have searched but cannot find where about on the Shiprow this might have been. Does anyone know where Cafe Buildings were located? Or (pushing my luck) have a photograph?

Check out this link. You'll find images & also historical information on Aberdeen buildings & streets etc.. A lot of the buildings in Shiprow were demolished in the 1950's & 60's, so you may not find the exact location of the Cafe Buildings.

In the 1905 valuation rolls, on scotlandspeople, a Mr.Joseph Robertson had a cafe & rooms at 10/12 Shiprow. According to various sources I found out that St.Katherine's Hall was at no.10. On 5th September 1908 The Gaiety cinema opened at that site. The Vue Cinema is now at that location.
Hope this helps,
regards,
flst.

That's brilliant, flst, thanks very much for your help. I hadn't thought about the valuation rolls. I think that answers my question.

Thanks again.
