Title: deciphering Occupation
Post by: stevengenresearch on Friday 13 April 18 08:16 BST (UK)
At a dead end trying to trace my GGG Grandfather David John Frewin, i have both marriage and death certificates (Victoria Australia) that have his parents as Thomas Frewin and Elizabeth Henty/Hemby, David was born abt 1839 in Liverpool in the marriage certificate, but can find no trace of David or his parents in any record in England,
on the marriage certificate it has his father as a Ceylon Home Officer (l think) was wondering what that is.
l have found David in a couple of shipping lists in Aust as a crew member, and they record his birthplace as Liverpool, he was also a Lighterman when he died in 1883.
Any help welcome,
Steve.

I too read it as Custom House Officer, before seeing what the others had written.
