Hi, I have not been on Rootschat for a while. I am trying to find George Old Bodsworth after 1861. In the 1861 census he can be found living in Hackleton with his Stepfather William Garner & Mother Sarah Garner (nee Pearson/Bodsworth/Hakes).
I believe he was born in Hardingstone Union after Sarah's Husband Thomas Bodsworth absconded/disappeared/vanished and turned up in Austrailia. I think Sarah believed he was deceased and remarried. I would be really grateful for any help. Cheers

Mum's name on marriage seems to be Hakes.
Marriages Mar 1839
BODSWORTH Thomas Hardingstone 15 301
HAKES Sarah Hardingstone 15 301
I suppose it's possible that George followed his dad and also went out to Australia?

I believe from the Hardingstone Union Miscellany although misspelt as Bosworth he was born there on 24 Jun 1845 and baptised on 28th Sept 1845. Sarah must have come on hard times since Thomas Bodsworth disappeared. I don't believe Thomas Bodsworth was a convict as I can not find any records. It's a mystery.

The parents married in 1839 so not sure why it would show no mmn?

I wonder if the name Old is in fact his fathers surname and that he was not the son of Thomas Bodsworth ::)

There were Old's in Piddington in 1841 - George Old lived next door but one to the Hake family, and Thomas Old next door to him.
There is a Sarah Bodsworth, servant, aged 20, working for a farmer in Water Lane, Wootton (1841). No sign of a Thomas Bodsworth anywhere.

In the Hardingstone Workhouse births there is this entry.
June 24 1845 Male child to Sarah Bosworth of Horton, Illigitimate, baptised Sep 28 1845,
named George.
