Phoebe/Phebe would sound the same to a clergyman who was writing it down, I doubt that she would have spelt it out for him :) They are often interchanged.
-
Thank you yes that is acceptable
My Problem is .. I have A William and Phoebe from Claydon Estates Taplow dating from 1777/ 1812
Then some born Taplow ,, Springfield estate ???
Then William and Phoebe 1842 from wooburn Bucks why should some be christned in taplow and some in Wooburn ,, the dates dont add up
-
The William and Ph*be (Montaque on Ancestry) who are on the 1841 census must be this couple:
William Montague
Marriage Date: 8 Jan 1827
Marriage Place: Wooburn, Buckingham, England
Spouse: Phebe Lacey
......
I'm not certain of her age on the 1841 census. It looks more like 35 than 25 to me. (and rounding up and down, etc.)
Just to check against the 1851 census:
GRO Births:

I am confused with the first post and the 1700's dates and 1812. Not sure what is meant by Cookham transferring to Maidenhead either. Can you please give a bit more information on the earlier Montagues.
Maureen, Sorry to hear you have rain, we are promised sunshine this week after what seems like weeks of rain on/off. I should be in the garden ;D

up until the year 1899 the area was known as Cookham and Bray...
In 1999.. Maidenhead was created including Cookham and Bray..all in the county of Berkshire,, BUT Taplow and Wooburn were in the county of Buckinghamshire..
Hence on Censes recordes If you were in Eather of Taplow or Wooburn, You would have been out of the county
-
I realise that Maidenhead, Cookham & Bray are all in Berkshire and that Taplow & Wooburn are in Buckinghamshire (being on the other side of the Thames :) ) I assume you are referring to the different area of birth for Phoebe. ;)
Sorry, I am still not sure what you are trying to establish with William & Phoebe. :-[
ADDED 1841 census has all the children as Y for born in county this would be true whether they were born in Wooburn or Taplow
-
Can you tell me where Claydon Estate was in Taplow . as I cound find it on 1841 to 1884 Map of Taplow Bucks .. Regards Pearlds
-
I'm trying to find out if Wliilam and Phebe from Wooburn
and William and Phoebe from Taplow were related to each other in any way.. as they all ended up living in Taplow or were they two different families many Thanks .., Pearlds
