Title: McNaughton family
Post by: Valcoff on Saturday 21 April 18 12:54 BST (UK)
I have a John McNaughton b: 12 July 1829 in Kincardine By Doune, Perth, Scotland. He was a farmer. I was told his wife was Euphemia McDonald, but I am not sure. I do not have any other information on him as yet except his parents and the children.
Father: Malcolm McNaughton b: about 1775 in Killin, Perthshire, Scotland.
Mother: Agnes Macarthur b: about 1775 in Stirling, Perthshire, Scotland.
I know of three chidren. One I do not have the birth place,
1. Sarah McNaughton b: about 1856 and died 29 Nov 1936 in Bethany 'Warra Street, Toorak, Victoria, Australia. She married a Frank McClean.
2. Malcolm McNaughton, b: 12 Sep 1857, Hampden, South Australia, Australia
3. Gilbert McNaughton, b: 24 June 1859  Hampden, South Australia, Australia
That is all I have, and I was wondering if there is anyone who may be researching the same McNaughton/McClean family that could possibly help me.

Val

Hi and welcome from me too  :)

There is a marriage/banns showing on the official pay to view site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

The index shows:

John McNaughtan and Euphemia McDonald,
19/09/1852
Ref 622/210 30
Barony (Glasgow, Lanarkshire area)

Official registration began in Scotland from 1855. Before this year, you have the Old Parish Registers. These are sadly quite hit and miss in terms of the info they record. Very often for a marriage, it will simply state bride and groom's names and a date. However, you would need to check to see what it shows on the register.

Val, daughter Sarah's death that you mention has parents details and the likely confirmation you mention of John's wife's name:

Father's name John MCNAUGHTON
Mother's maiden name Euphemia (Mcdonald)

Added: www.familytreecircles.com/mcnaughton-family-65766.html See you have some of this info already, so sadly nothing new maybe.

I wish to thank those who have replied to my post. I have one concern with the family supplied by Rosie99. I have obtained more information due to your contribution, and I thank you very much. When I got the birth, marriage and death details of these people, (sons and daughters of Malcolm and Agnes McNaughton), I have found that, yes, they were all born in Scotland, BUT, all except two, died in Quebec, Canada. I am still looking for information on John McNaughton, and Euphemia McDonald, as they are proving elusive. I am wondering if it is possible that the rest of the family all went to Canada except John? He and Euphemia were married in Scotland before they came to Australia. I have tried to get information from Scotland's People, but they had nothing at first and once they wanted money up front before they would show what they had. I will have to try a couple of other sites that I have on hand.  Again thank you all.

I'm a bit puzzled about your comments regarding scotlandspeople. What do you mean by "they had nothing at first" and then wanted money up front. What type of information are you referring to?

They require you to register, which is free of charge. Once you have registered you can view the indexes free of charge, but you need to buy credits before you can view original images.

If you do that you will be wasting your time as far as Scottish records are concerned.

Hi FLST, I got a reply of zero match, then on another instant, I got a hit. I need to buy credits to obtain the record. That is all I meant. Sorry I was not clear.
