Good evening
I am trying to trace my maternal great grandfather’s family from
Dublin bit have hit a brick wall with regards to his parents.
My great grandfather is William Byrne, born 16 Oct 1895 in South Dublin (19 Great Ship St).
His parents (which I have the names from his baptism certificate) are John Byrne and Margaret Daly. This is the only information I can find on them. In particular I am trying to find a birth or marriage record for them.
John and Margaret had the following children:
William - 18/11/1881 (I believe he died in infancy but haven’t yet located his death info)
Celia - 24/10/1883
Bernard Leo - 20/02/1893
John Christopher - 16/12/1886
Robert - 27/06/1889
William - 16/10/1895
I have found them on the 1911 census.
I have also possibly found another’s daughter Cath Mary - 01/06/1877 who also may have died in infancy. She’s not in any census but her baptism certificate shows her at the same address.
I have found another baptism record for another Robert, which states his date of birth to be 13/08/79. Again at the same address.
Possibly renaming my great grandad William and his brother Robert after the children they lost maybe?? Was this a common thing to do?
Godparents and present at birth names on the children’s certificates include the names: Anne Byrne (present at birth), Sarah Byrne, Robert Daly, Mary Farrell, Michael Fanning, Norah Daly (present at birth), James Kelly, Mary Grey, Pat Fanning.
Any help would be appreciated in finding any family relating to John or Margaret.
Many thanks

Welcome to RootsChat,
Where are they in the 1911 Census?
The census if the mother is still alive should say how many years they were married.
If it's the Ireland Census a link would be handy

Ah thank you. I wish I could search for stuff as quick as you do! Hopefully in time I’ll learn all the correct websites to use.
Out of curiousity, have you noticed anyone by the name of MOORE or HICKEY when researching Valentine at all?
He’s in a photo I have with the Moore family (Bridget Philomena, Kathleen (who became a Hickey I believe but that may be wrong), Mary, Kate and James. I believe there also may be a Celia Moore. I’ve found them on the 1911 census but I just can’t work out where they fit into our family. ???

Looking at those links and my photo, I’m not sure they are the right family. ???
I found this family... http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Rathmines___Rathgar_East/Anna_Villa_Lower/49266/ ...Which match the names on my photo. My uncle has written.. Bridie Moore (cousin), Kathleen hickey (cousin?), uncle Val, uncle Willie Moore, aunt Katie Moore, aunt Kathleen Byrne. (Uncle val obviously being valentine Byrne and aunt Kathleen Byrne is his wife).
Bridget Philomena which was also my nan’s full name and I know when her cousin used to visit, because my Nan was the younger one, she had to change her name to Breeda and not Bridie. (which she hated!) :P
I’m not sure about Willie Moore but he looks quite a lot older than the others in the photo so he’s presumably Bridget and Kathleen’s grandad??
-
Well there can be no doubting that John Moore and Catherine Byrne are your relatives as Catherine's parents are John Byrne and Margaret Daly in the church register and born 1877 registered as Kate

Well I presume so, although she is down as a Kathleen rather than a Catherine (but I guess they’re pretty similar names). There is definitely a Vera sister too somewhere, but I can’t find any record of her.

I am a great grand-daughter of Bridget Sandford and have got as far in the family history as you have. It is on my grandfathers/mothers side. Which side are you? I have been struggling for years trying to find out some relations from the Sandford/byrne family. My Grandfather is the great grandson of
brdget Sandford and Thomas (I think) It has been a few years since I did the family tree!
