Hello,
John and Rebekah were baptising children in Ashdon around 1814. I haven't found any marriage record yet.
I'd appreciate any help,
Adam

Thank you very much!

May be connected.
Looking at censuses for Fitches born Ashdon, there is a William b 1794 - 1798 (depending on which census) and a Samuel b abt 1802. These match with a William bapt 9 Apr 1797 and Samuel bapt 30 May 1802 at Ashdon sons of William and Jane.
Best match for marriage is William Fitch bach to Jane Walls sp otp on 24 Oct 1786 at Steeple Bumpstead by licence, grooms parish Old Samford, Essex (probably Great Sampford)
Witnesses look like Henry Cooke and Jos Rush. wits signed, brideand groom made mark.
there is a baptism in Steeple B for a Samuel s/o William and Jane on 25 Dec 1791.
There is a Samuel Fitch buried in Ashdon on 3 July 1791, but no indication of his age.

What's the connection to Mary Fitch?
-
Who's MARY Fitch?
-
Sorry, Rebecca.

It's just a possibility that they are related, possibly even Rebecca's parents. Assuming William and Jane in Steeple B are the same couple who turn up in Ashdon, the timeline would be:
William Fitch and Jane Wall married in Steeple Bumpstead in 1786
Samuel bapt S B 1791
William bapt Ashdon in 1797
Samuel bapt Ashdon in 1802
William snr buried Ashdon in 1803 age 55 (born abt 1748)
Rebecca married John Thake in Ashdon in 1812. Witnesses Jeremiah Howes and Simon Richardson
William jnr married Susannah Barker (of Saffron Walden) in Ashdon in 1817. Wit Ann and Samuel Jackson and Jeremiah Howes (JH has very shaky signature but looks like same as above)
Samuel married Amy Richardson in Ashdon in 1824. Wit Richard Ruse, Mary Greygoose.
Jane Fitch buried in Ashdon in 1834 age 80 (born abt 1854)
W and J seem a little older than expected but last baby at 48 after 5 year gap is possible. And there is a gap for Rebecca's birth about 1789. So we need to find where they were before they came to Ashdon and where was Samuel 1 buried.
(Later realised that the Samuel buried in Ashdon was earlier in 1791 so cannot be their son, more likely the Samuel who married Sarah Woodhall or their son Samuel.)

Note on Jeremiah Howes (parish clerk)

So not particularly significant he was witness on both William's and Rebecca's marriages.
that was from freereg. I'll look at actual burial record later, but got to go for eye test now!

Thanks for your help!

Possibly the first child of John and Rebecca Thake was Samuel, which is interesting.
Baptized at Ashdon, 24 July 1814

Yes, that's my four times great-grandfather. Married Jane Baynes in Radwinter in 1835.
And ah, thanks for that. That's an interesting piece of information.
