Welcome to RootsChat,
You haven't given enough information to work with.
Did John and Mary marry in Ireland or America? A marriage would give his father's name and possible his mother.
How do you know he came from Cork?
You need to find all the records you can for him in America before looking for him in Ireland.
Emigration, Census, marriage and such like.
There are no Civil Records for the 1830s so you will be looking for church records. For that you need his religion, and ideally where in Cork he came from, at least one parent name but preferably both even than not all church records survive from that period and not all that do are online.

Most of the info that I have comes from News Paper Obits from the Baltimore Sun in 1892.
It looks like John Doody died in May of 1892 and Mary died in Sept 1892, per the obit he was born in County Limerick and she was born in County Mayo. I don't have much more info than that, the obits indicate that the New York papers be advised. Their children all born in America were John, Mary, Ellie and William. I believe that Mary's birth name was Welsh. Not sure if this helps on your end.
Thanks

Not a lot to go on, but first I'll ask a moderator to move this off the Cork board.

hi Sinann, please could this get transferred as well
half hoping to find your John Joseph Doody in one or other of two irish records I made a list and although it doesn’t solve the problem, one of your Doody relatives should be amongst the list below. It should show you how many choices and evidence needed by you to get this important link you want. The list combines the Doody by alphabetical civil parish found in Griffith Valuation quick index of about 1852 from http://www.failteromhat.com/post1845.php with the earlier Tithe Applotment Book entry under the civil parish

Is this the family in 1870
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MNSR-MKR
if you haven't used FamilySearch before you will have to register to see the record but it's free.
Son John is 4 years so born about 1865/66
Daughter Mary is 2 years.
It's quite possible they married in America, so it would be best to try and find a birth for the children to confirm Mary's surname and then try to find a marriage.
It's possible they married in Ireland but given that John is from Limerick and Mary from Mayo it seems more likely they met in America.
BallyaltkilliganG posted as I was writing, it's a long post so I haven't looked at it yet.

Yes this is my Great Great Grandparents and children. They first show up in the 1870 census in Baltimore Maryland. I keep planning to visit the genealogy records at St Mary's Parish in Baltimore and eventually I'll get there.
