Tried to switch on my under a year old HP laptop and got a black screen. Tried to click mouse to bring up password entry after screen saver appeared but went black again.
Advice please.....in plain English as not technically minded!
Thanks.

mine did same last night
sister advised switvhing off on main button wait at least 20 secs before switching on again
I got something on screen
I was supposed to chose the reboot option but screen frozen
not supposed to presss anything until blue bar at bottom as finished
takes a long time sometimes
so I gave up tried again this morning but didn't have much time
am now on computer in town
If you fix yours
let me know what you did please
ps I also know now not to keep pressing buttons until the swirly donut somewhere on the screenhas finished swirling
not sure if I speak plain English or gobbled ggok but I don't speak COMPUTEREESE either

Have you tried the trick of removing the battery and holding down the power button for about 20 seconds? Then replace the battery and switching on as normal. This discharges the build up of static electricity apparently. Can't do any harm.

NJ - if yours is under a year old it must still be under guarantee - I'd contact where you bought it from and get them to look at it if my "trick" doesn't work.

I went off to find necessary paperwork etc., phone number for supplier and wrote down exactly what happened. Came back to have one last go.......no problem at all!
I will never understand technology! ::)
Groom; thanks for the advice....will store that for next time.

There should be a small hole in bottom of laptop for this purpose, using a small paper clip it should remove any static without removing batteries.
