Hello,
William married Elizabeth Bloom in 1785 in Caunton and died there in 1845. A year of birth of around 1756 comes from his death certificate. Can anyone find anything on William?
Thanks,
Adam

The family was poor - William listed as a pauper on the baptism of some of his children.
There are 14 children listed - do you have these details?
Elizabeth died in 1811.
William is listed as age 88 at his burial in Jan 1845; so yob, as you say, around 1756-7. Sadly there are no Wm Cartwrights anywhere in county with baptism dates around then, on my disc.

No problem. Thanks for your help.

There is a baptism for a William Cartwright 24 October 1756 in Kneesall, parents John and Mary.
Kneesall is about 4 miles NW of Caunton.

Thanks! Sadly, today my worst fears were confirmed and sadly I'm not related to this branch of the Cartwrights after all :(
My Cartwright line ends with my great-great-grandad William Cartwright, born around 1865 in Newark. Nothing can be found on him. However, hopefully an actual descendant of this William will find this information!

Tell us what you know about William born 1865 and we''ll have a look. I find it hard to believe that nothing at all can be found. For example there's a William Cartwright whose birth is registered in Southwell in 1865. That's only 6 miles from Newark. I can find a William in the 1871 Census who gives his birthplace as Norwell, which is only 5 miles away and I haven't really started looking yet. He wasn't a miraculous birth. I can't believe there is no sign of him until the birth of your gt grandad.
